Jennifer Lopez braved rainy weather in Paris as she joined celebrities at Stella McCartney’s Spring/Summer 2027 show, where the designer used the runway to highlight concerns about ocean conservation and the environmental impact of fishing.
The show took place in the gardens of the British ambassador’s residence during Paris Fashion Week on Sept. 30. Lopez watched from the front row under an umbrella, alongside actress Juliette Binoche, while models including Karlie Kloss and Miranda Kerr appeared on the runway.
McCartney, whose fashion house has avoided leather, fur and feathers since its launch, focused her latest collection on marine life. Dolphins, sharks and killer whales appeared in the designs, while several pieces featured wave-inspired details and ocean-themed imagery.
The designer also used the event to criticize the environmental effects of commercial fishing. McCartney argued that the distinction between “sea life” and “seafood” can make it easier to overlook the impact of fishing on marine ecosystems, including the accidental capture of dolphins and other animals.
The collection translated the ocean theme into flowing silhouettes and watery colors, including seafoam, sage, coral, blush and chocolate. Oversized tailoring was softened with drawstrings and fluid fabrics, while sheer layers, bandeau tops and low-rise pieces added a more contemporary edge.
Kloss walked in a dress decorated with curling wave motifs, while Kerr appeared in a pale seafoam gown gathered around the waist. Evening looks featured draped fabrics and long silhouettes inspired by the fluidity of water.
Sustainability remained central to the collection. The brand highlighted recycled cotton denim, organic cotton and silk, as well as an algae-based black pigment. McCartney has also incorporated Brewed Protein, a wool alternative developed through biotechnology, into some of her designs.
The show also reflected McCartney’s wider push for changes across the fashion industry. She recently co-founded the Climate Pledge Fashion Coalition with Amazon and Canopy, bringing together more than 60 companies to increase demand for more sustainable materials and help scale their production.
The Paris presentation marked 25 years since McCartney launched her own label. Rather than simply revisiting past collections, she combined familiar elements such as tailoring, sporty pieces, lingerie-inspired styling and fluid evening wear with a strong focus on marine conservation.
For McCartney, the runway was therefore more than an anniversary celebration. It combined fashion, sustainability and an environmental message, while celebrities such as Lopez helped bring additional attention to the ocean-inspired collection.
