Korean Designer Helps Bring LEGO’s First Dragon Ball Set to Life With Shenron and Goku

A major anime franchise is finally entering the LEGO universe.

The LEGO Group has unveiled its first-ever Dragon Ball set, bringing Shenron and young Goku together in a 1,764-piece LEGO Icons display model — with a Korean designer at LEGO’s headquarters in Denmark playing a role in its creation.

The new LEGO Icons Dragon Ball Shenron & Goku set was developed through a partnership between LEGO and Japanese animation studio Toei Animation, marking the companies’ first collaboration on the Dragon Ball franchise.

Shenron Rises From the Seven Dragon Balls

The 1,764-piece set recreates one of Dragon Ball’s most recognizable moments: Shenron emerging from the seven Dragon Balls while young Goku rides his Flying Nimbus.

The seven Dragon Balls are represented at the base of the model, while Goku can be detached and repositioned to create different display configurations.

A display stand and Dragon Ball logo plaque are also included.

For LEGO designers, however, translating Shenron from animation into physical bricks presented a very specific challenge.

Korean Designer Joins the Creative Team

Lee Jae-won, a Korean designer working at LEGO’s headquarters in Billund, Denmark, participated in developing the set.

Lee and the wider design team studied Shenron’s poses from the original animation while working on ways to reproduce the dragon’s distinctive long, curved body and scales using LEGO elements.

The team also experimented with building and structural techniques to capture Shenron’s recognizable silhouette while keeping the model suitable for display.

That makes the project notable for Korean LEGO fans as well as Dragon Ball followers, with a Korean designer contributing to LEGO’s first official set based on the globally recognized franchise.

A Franchise That Has Spanned Generations

Created by the late manga artist Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball first appeared in 1984 and eventually expanded into an internationally successful anime franchise through Toei Animation.

Its story follows Goku and his adventures involving the seven magical Dragon Balls, whose collection summons Shenron, the dragon capable of granting wishes.

Now, one of the franchise’s defining images is being translated into a completely different medium.

Instead of animation frames, fans will be able to recreate Shenron’s dramatic appearance through thousands of individual LEGO elements.

When Does the LEGO Dragon Ball Set Go on Sale?

The LEGO Icons Dragon Ball Shenron & Goku set will officially launch on November 4, 2026 through LEGO Stores and LEGO.com.

LEGO Insiders will have early access beginning November 1, with the early-access period running through November 3.

The set is priced at $179.99 in the United States, according to LEGO and The Korea Times.

More Dragon Ball LEGO Sets Are Coming

The first Shenron and Goku set appears to be only the beginning.

LEGO and Toei Animation have confirmed that their collaboration will continue, with additional Dragon Ball products planned for 2027.

That means the debut set is not simply a one-off crossover. It marks the opening of a broader LEGO Dragon Ball collection.

For longtime fans, the biggest surprise may be how long it took this crossover to happen.

After decades of Goku, Shenron and the Dragon Balls dominating anime culture, Dragon Ball has finally made the jump into LEGO bricks — and the next question is which character will be summoned into the collection next.
