A dream has turned into a life-changing windfall for a 54-year-old renovation contractor from Sarawak, Malaysia, who won more than RM10 million after betting on numbers inspired by what he saw while asleep.
The man, a father of two and longtime Sports Toto customer, won the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 with the numbers 8622 and 5765, taking home RM10,169,557.55.
He also received an additional RM672 as a System Play bonus after purchasing a System 4 ticket.
Numbers Came From a Dream
The contractor said the winning combination came to him in a dream, prompting him to try the numbers.
Remarkably, he only placed the numbers for the second time when they produced the jackpot-winning combination.
“It was just the second time I bet on these numbers. I never expected the numbers to bring me such a huge win,” he said in a statement issued by STM Lottery.
The man has been regularly playing Sports Toto for more than three decades, spending around RM50 a week on lottery tickets.
Despite his long history of playing, he said he never expected a dream-inspired combination to result in such a substantial prize.
A Chance Stop at a Toto Outlet
The winning ticket was purchased on Sept. 26, when the contractor happened to be having lunch near one of his renovation project sites.
He noticed that there was a Sports Toto outlet beside the restaurant.
Although he had not apparently planned to place a major bet that day, something prompted him to try the same dream-inspired numbers again.
“I did not think much of it at the time,” he said.
That spontaneous decision ultimately produced one of the biggest lottery windfalls of his life.
After the draw, he checked the results through the Sports Toto website and discovered that his numbers had won the jackpot.
Rather than immediately celebrating, however, he said he remained surprisingly calm and was even able to sleep normally that night.
Still Deciding What to Do With the Money
Despite suddenly becoming more than RM10 million richer, the contractor said he has not yet decided how he will use the money.
Instead, he plans to keep the windfall secure and take time to consider his options.
“For now, I intend to keep the money prudently and set aside a portion for my children’s future,” he said.
The winner also stressed the importance of careful planning before making major financial decisions.
His approach means the windfall is unlikely to result in any immediate major purchases or investments, at least for now.
A Decades-Long Lottery Habit
The contractor’s win came after roughly 30 years as a Sports Toto customer.
He typically spent around RM50 per week, drawn by the possibility of winning the 4D Jackpot.
His experience also highlights how unusual lottery wins can sometimes arise from seemingly ordinary decisions — in this case, noticing a lottery outlet while having lunch and deciding to reuse numbers inspired by a dream.
While the numbers had personal significance to him, there is no evidence that dream-inspired numbers have any greater statistical likelihood of winning than other combinations.
The jackpot was ultimately determined by the official lottery draw, not by the source of the numbers.
A RM10 Million Windfall
The final jackpot payout was RM10,169,557.55, with the additional RM672 System Play bonus bringing his total winnings to more than RM10.17 million.
For the Sarawak contractor, however, the biggest priority now appears to be making sure the unexpected fortune benefits his family in the long term.
With two children to consider, he said he plans to set aside part of the money for their future and take his time before making any major financial decisions.
A dream that began as a set of numbers has therefore become a multimillion-ringgit reality — all from a combination he had only wagered on twice.
