Charlie Sheen Reunites With Father Martin Sheen for New AMC Comedy Series

Charlie Sheen is returning to television alongside his father, Martin Sheen, with the pair set to play father and son in a new AMC comedy series titled Happy Jack.

The half-hour family comedy has been ordered for a six-episode first season and is scheduled to begin production in Los Angeles in early 2027. The series is expected to premiere later that year on AMC and AMC+.

Charlie Sheen will star as Jack Chambers, described as a lifelong ne’er-do-well who is raising two adult daughters. His daughter Kate runs his company and attempts to keep him on track, while his other daughter, Sam, is described as a more rebellious character who takes after her father.

Martin Sheen will play Jack’s own father, who has played an important role in helping raise his granddaughters. The family dynamic becomes more complicated when Sam returns home and introduces her new boyfriend, Paul, a former investment banker who has embraced a van-life lifestyle and turns out to be the same age as Jack.

The storyline puts Jack in an unexpected position as he is forced to confront his relationship with his daughters. After initially being shocked by Sam’s boyfriend, Jack begins to recognize that he has an opportunity to become more involved in his daughters’ lives rather than continuing to focus primarily on himself.

The series is being developed by Jim Patterson and Matt Ross, who will serve as writers, executive producers and co-showrunners. The two previously worked with Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men and The Ranch.

Charlie Sheen will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Todd Christopher, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Jason Wang and 20th Television.

In announcing the project, Charlie Sheen said he was excited to return to television and described the new series as a meaningful opportunity to reunite with a creative team and take on another television role.

Happy Jack will be filmed in front of a live studio audience at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, the same studio complex where Sheen previously filmed Two and a Half Men. The production is planned as a multi-camera comedy.

The new series also continues a long history of Charlie and Martin Sheen appearing together on screen. The real-life father and son previously portrayed father and son in Wall Street and have also shared the screen in projects including No Code of Conduct, Cadence and Free Money.

Martin Sheen previously appeared alongside his son in Two and a Half Men, while the two also worked together on Anger Management. Their latest project will once again use their real-life family relationship as part of the show’s central dynamic.

For Charlie Sheen, Happy Jack marks his return to a leading television comedy role after Anger Management, which ran from 2012 to 2014. He is also widely known for his earlier television role as Charlie Harper in Two and a Half Men, as well as film appearances in Wall Street, Platoon, Hot Shots! and Young Guns.

Martin Sheen, meanwhile, is known for a long television and film career that includes The West Wing and Grace and Frankie, among numerous other projects. Happy Jack will bring the two actors together in a new setting built around family relationships and generational differences.

AMC Global Media said the series represents a new direction for the network and expressed enthusiasm about bringing the father-and-son pairing to its audience. The project is also part of AMC’s upcoming programming slate for international buyers.

With production scheduled to begin early next year and a 2027 premiere planned, Happy Jack will give viewers another opportunity to see Charlie and Martin Sheen together while placing their familiar father-and-son dynamic at the center of a contemporary family comedy.
