Sean “Diddy” Combs is now scheduled to be released from federal prison on January 21, 2028, after his projected release date was moved forward again, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons records.
The 56-year-old music mogul is serving a 50-month federal prison sentence following his 2025 conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Combs is currently incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey. His original projected release date was in June 2028, but the date has been revised several times as credits and sentence calculations changed. His most recent projected date had been February 5, 2028, before it was moved to January 21.
The latest change comes as Combs continues to appeal his conviction and sentence. His representative said he is serving his sentence while awaiting the court’s decision on the appeal.
Combs was sentenced in October 2025 after a closely watched federal trial in New York. Prosecutors had accused him of using his business empire and personal influence to facilitate a broader criminal enterprise, but the jury ultimately found him guilty only on the two prostitution-related transportation counts.
The verdict meant Combs avoided the substantially longer sentence he could have faced had he been convicted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. He was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison term.
His time at Fort Dix has also attracted attention because of reports about his life inside the facility. NBC News, citing inmates who spoke anonymously, reported allegations that Combs had fellow prisoners perform chores and prepare special meals for him and that he had access to items prohibited inside the prison, including a cellphone and alcohol.
Combs’ spokesperson disputed the characterization of his prison life, saying the musician was serving his sentence within the rules and was focused on his appeal. The Bureau of Prisons said it does not comment on individual inmates but acknowledged that contraband such as cellphones, narcotics and weapons remains an ongoing challenge across correctional facilities.
Reports about Combs’ prison conditions follow an earlier incident in which he was reportedly involved in an altercation with another inmate. The incident resulted in a period of solitary confinement, although prison officials have declined to publicly discuss individual disciplinary matters.
Combs was arrested in September 2024 and remained in federal custody throughout his criminal case. His trial became one of the most closely followed celebrity-related federal prosecutions in recent years, with testimony and evidence concerning his relationships, business activities and alleged sexual encounters receiving extensive public attention.
The case also generated numerous civil lawsuits from people accusing Combs of sexual assault and other misconduct. Combs has denied wrongdoing in the civil allegations. His criminal conviction, however, is limited to the two transportation-for-prostitution counts for which the jury found him guilty.
For now, January 21, 2028, is the projected federal release date recorded for Combs. That date could still change because federal release calculations can be adjusted, while his appeal remains pending.
