Singapore Muay Thai Fighter, 24, Dies After Fight for Hope Tournament — Police Investigation Continues

A 24-year-old Singaporean Muay Thai fighter has died after being taken unconscious to hospital following a bout at the AMC 13 – Fight for Hope tournament at Singapore’s National Stadium on September 12, police confirmed.

A police report was lodged the following morning after the fighter was transported to hospital. Police said preliminary investigations have found no suspected foul play, while inquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at about 7:05 p.m. on September 12 and transported one person to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The fighter had trained at Singapore’s Inspire Fitness Asia Muay Thai gym. His identity and the exact timing of his death have not been publicly disclosed by police.

The Singapore Muaythai Association (SMA) previously said the bout was stopped by the referee during the third round in the interest of the athlete’s safety. The association also rejected reports that the fighter had been knocked out during the match.

According to SMA president Mike Tang, both athletes were present when the result was announced and left the ring without assistance. One fighter subsequently required medical attention and was treated by medical personnel at the venue before being taken to hospital.

The SMA has launched a formal review and said it is working with relevant parties to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The AMC 13 – Fight for Hope was part of a three-weekend Muay Thai festival organized by the SMA at the National Stadium. The event combined competition and community activities while raising awareness and funds in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation Singapore.

The death has now prompted further attention on the circumstances surrounding the tournament, with both the association’s review and police investigation still underway.
