A 43-year-old trailer driver has been arrested after allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident involving a cyclist in Singapore’s Defu industrial area.
The crash happened at about 10:10 a.m. on Oct. 1 at the junction of Defu Avenue 1 and Defu Lane 7, according to Singapore Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
A 62-year-old female cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.
Police said the trailer driver had already left the area when officers arrived. He was subsequently arrested and charged with careless driving causing death, while investigations into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.
The incident involved a bicycle and a trailer. Images of the aftermath shared by Stomp showed the accident area cordoned off by police, with the bicycle lying on the road.
The fatal crash comes as Singapore monitors road-safety trends. Traffic Police statistics released on Aug. 28 showed that accidents resulting in injuries increased from 3,748 in the first half of 2025 to 3,869 during the same period in 2026. Injuries also rose from 4,894 to 5,090.
At the same time, the number of fatalities fell from 79 in the first half of 2025 to 61, while fatal accidents declined from 78 to 60 over the same period.
Police investigations into the Defu Avenue crash are continuing.
The case highlights the serious consequences that can follow a road collision and the importance of remaining at the scene while authorities respond and investigate.
