28-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in Hospital After Crash With Lorry on Singapore’s PIE

A 28-year-old motorcyclist has died after an accident involving a lorry on Singapore’s Pan Island Expressway (PIE) on Oct. 1, with police investigations now underway.

The Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted to the crash at about 9:50 a.m. on the PIE in the direction of Changi Airport.

The motorcyclist was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital while unconscious. He later died in hospital.

The lorry driver, a 48-year-old man, is assisting police with their investigations. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading to the collision.

Footage of the aftermath shared on Facebook showed police vehicles and tow trucks at the scene, while personnel examined the motorcycle involved.

The fatal crash comes amid updated road-safety figures showing that Singapore recorded more injury-related traffic accidents during the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.

According to Traffic Police statistics released on Aug. 28, accidents resulting in injuries increased from 3,748 to 3,869, while the number of people injured rose from 4,894 to 5,090.

Fatalities, however, declined from 79 in the first half of 2025 to 61 in the first half of 2026, while fatal accidents fell from 78 to 60.

Motorcyclists and pillion riders remained a significant part of Singapore’s road-safety picture. Motorcycle-related accidents increased from 2,096 to 2,186 during the first half of 2026, while injuries involving motorcyclists and pillion riders rose from 2,335 to 2,470.

Police said motorcyclists and pillion riders accounted for 55.6% of all traffic accidents during the January-to-June period. They also represented 45.9% of all road deaths, despite the number of motorcycle and pillion deaths falling from 43 to 28 year-on-year.

Investigations into the Oct. 1 PIE accident remain ongoing.
