Singapore police are investigating after a video circulated online showing a man allegedly following two female students while wearing smart glasses, prompting concern over student safety and possible covert recording.
The footage shows a man in a grey shirt and black shorts walking closely behind two girls in school uniforms along a sheltered pedestrian walkway. He is seen wearing a mask, holding a mobile phone against his chest and appearing to press the side of his black-rimmed glasses. When he appears to notice that he is being filmed, he turns around and walks in the opposite direction.
The video was initially posted on Reddit before being removed and was later shared on social media. The students’ uniforms appear similar to those of Raffles Institution, although the exact identities of the students and the date of the recording have not been publicly confirmed. The incident was reported to have occurred along a walkway toward Marymount MRT station.
Online commenters have made additional claims about the man’s alleged past behaviour, including allegations that he had approached students with surveys near locations associated with Raffles Institution. These claims have not been independently verified.
Singapore police confirmed that a report had been lodged and that investigations are ongoing. Raffles Institution has also been contacted for information about whether the school is aware of the incident or whether students or parents have raised concerns.
The incident has also renewed attention on privacy concerns surrounding smart glasses, which can incorporate cameras, microphones and other recording features. However, the circulating footage alone does not establish whether the man actually recorded the students or what he may have been doing with the device.
