Mia Goth Files for Divorce From Shia LaBeouf After Nearly 10 Years of Marriage

Mia Goth has formally filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf, bringing their turbulent, on-and-off relationship closer to a legal end nearly a decade after they married.

The 32-year-old British actress filed a petition Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to court records cited by multiple outlets. The filing lists July 28, 2025, as the couple’s date of separation and cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce.

Goth and LaBeouf, 40, first met while working together on the 2012 film Nymphomaniac: Vol. II. Their relationship went through several breakups and reconciliations before they married in 2016.

Goth Seeks Primary Custody of Their Daughter

The divorce filing also addresses the couple’s 4-year-old daughter, Isabel, whom they welcomed in 2022.

Goth is seeking primary legal and physical custody of their daughter while requesting that LaBeouf be granted visitation rights, according to court documents. She is also asking the court to prevent either party from receiving spousal support.

The filing says the couple’s separate and community property, as well as their debts, have not yet been fully determined. Goth is asking to retain the ability to amend the petition once those financial matters are clarified.

Neither actor’s representatives immediately responded to requests for comment from the Associated Press.

A Relationship Marked by Breakups and Reconciliation

Goth and LaBeouf’s relationship has unfolded over more than a decade.

After meeting in 2012, the pair became a couple and eventually married in 2016. They announced plans to divorce in 2018, but the divorce was never completed and they later reconciled. By 2020, the two were again seen together, and they welcomed their daughter two years later.

The latest filing indicates that their most recent separation occurred in July 2025, meaning the couple had already been living separately for more than a year before Goth formally filed for divorce.

LaBeouf had also publicly acknowledged earlier this year that his marriage to Goth had ended. In a February 2026 interview, he said he had “failed” his marriage and had to take responsibility for that, according to reports.

Goth’s Career Has Continued to Grow

While her personal life has drawn renewed attention, Goth has continued building a prominent acting career.

She became particularly known for her work in Ti West’s horror trilogy X, Pearl and MaXXXine. More recently, she appeared in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and had a role in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

LaBeouf, meanwhile, rose to fame as a child actor on Disney Channel’s Even Stevens before becoming a major Hollywood star through films including Holes, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the first three Transformers movies.

Divorce Filing Comes Amid Other Legal Developments

Goth’s divorce filing came shortly after another legal development involving LaBeouf and singer-actress FKA Twigs, whom he dated during one of his earlier separations from Goth.

Twigs sued LaBeouf in 2020, alleging emotional and physical abuse during their relationship. The case was previously settled, but she later filed another lawsuit challenging confidentiality provisions connected to that settlement. On Oct. 5, she moved to dismiss that second case after LaBeouf agreed to void the provisions, according to the Associated Press.

LaBeouf also pleaded guilty earlier this year to misdemeanor battery charges stemming from a Mardi Gras altercation in New Orleans. He was sentenced to probation in June.

Those matters are separate from Goth’s divorce proceedings, and the divorce filing itself cites irreconcilable differences rather than specifying any particular incident as the cause of the marriage ending.

For now, the court proceedings will determine custody, financial arrangements and the formal dissolution of the marriage as Goth and LaBeouf move forward separately.
