Woman Throws 3 Flower Pots and Rack From HDB Block After Night of Drinking, Jailed 4 Weeks

A night of drinking in Singapore ended in a four-week jail sentence for a 24-year-old woman who threw three flower pots and a rack from the corridor of an HDB block in the early hours of the morning.

Melissa Rosabelle Misson was also fined $600 and disqualified from holding or obtaining all classes of driving licences for two years, according to AsiaOne.

The incident occurred at about 6.15am, when Misson was heard shouting a man’s name outside a second-floor HDB unit and banging on its window before throwing the items down from the corridor.

Night Out Ended in Disturbing Early-Morning Incident

According to court reports, Misson had dinner with friends near Clarke Quay at around 11.30pm on Oct 5, 2024, where she drank a pint of beer.

The group later went to a nightclub, where she consumed another pint of beer and three whisky-based drinks.

At about 4.30am the following morning, she accompanied a male friend to his home because she was heavily intoxicated and did not have her keys with her.

However, she insisted on leaving shortly after arriving. Concerned about her safety, her friend accompanied her outside. He later returned home after hearing her tell someone over the phone where she was, believing that someone would come to pick her up.

About 90 minutes later, Misson was heard shouting a man’s name and banging on the window of a second-floor HDB unit.

She then threw three flower pots and a rack from the common corridor.

A 26-year-old male resident heard the commotion and opened his door. He saw Misson throwing the objects and shouted at her to stop.

Misson told him she was looking for a man named Rizmi, but the resident said no one by that name lived there. His father subsequently called the police, and Misson was arrested.

An alcohol test found that her blood alcohol concentration was 168mg per 100ml of blood.

Separate Motorcycle Offence Also Taken Into Account

Misson faced four charges, including committing a rash act that endangered the life or personal safety of others, riding a motorcycle without a valid licence, and offences under the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act.

She pleaded guilty to one charge, while the remaining charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.

In a separate incident on Sept 5, 2025, at about 2.40am, a traffic police officer caught her riding a motorcycle rented by a friend despite not holding a valid driving licence.

The court sentenced her to four weeks’ jail, imposed a $600 fine and disqualified her from holding or obtaining all classes of driving licences for two years.

Why Throwing Objects From High-Rise Buildings Is Dangerous

Objects thrown from HDB blocks can cause serious injuries or even death if they strike people below. Singapore’s Housing and Development Board warns residents against throwing objects from high-rise buildings and placing items in hazardous positions.

The case serves as a reminder that conduct in shared residential spaces can put unsuspecting neighbours and passers-by at risk, even when no one is reported injured.

For residents living in high-rise estates, keeping common corridors safe and ensuring objects cannot fall from height remain important responsibilities.
