RM35 Nasi Lemak and RM30 Indomie: F1 Food Prices Turn Heads at Sepang

Formula 1 fans heading to Sepang this weekend may want to budget carefully for meals, with several familiar Malaysian favourites being sold at notably higher prices inside the circuit.

An official vendor menu for the race lists nasi lemak with a fried egg at RM35, while chicken rice and Indomie with a fried egg are each priced at RM30. A serving of cut fruit costs RM20.

The prices have caught attention because these are everyday dishes that Malaysian diners can typically find at much lower prices outside major sporting events. For fans spending an entire day at the circuit, repeated food and drink purchases could add significantly to the overall cost of attending the race.

A group of four ordering the RM35 nasi lemak would spend RM140 on that meal alone. Four servings of chicken rice would cost RM120, while four portions of cut fruit would add another RM80.

The food bill comes on top of race tickets, transportation, parking, merchandise and other expenses associated with attending the Formula 1 weekend. For families and larger groups, the cumulative cost can rise quickly over several days.

The prices are part of the wider commercial environment surrounding Formula 1, where food, merchandise and other event services are sold to large crowds in a high-demand setting. Fans who plan to remain inside the venue for long periods will need to rely on the food and beverage options available at the circuit.

The timing also makes the prices particularly noticeable as Sepang welcomes Formula 1 back after a nine-year absence. The circuit last hosted a Formula 1 world championship race in 2017 before returning to the calendar this year under the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia banner.

The return has generated strong interest, with large crowds expected throughout the race weekend. With spectators arriving from Malaysia and overseas, food vendors are preparing for sustained demand as fans spend hours moving between grandstands, fan zones and other attractions.

For many racegoers, the weekend will be about experiencing the atmosphere as much as watching the cars. But at Sepang, fans may discover that enjoying familiar comfort food inside the circuit comes with a distinctly premium event price.
