Over P22.1 Million Worth of Shabu Seized in Separate Operations Across BARMM and Zamboanga Peninsula

Authorities seized more than P22.1 million worth of suspected shabu and arrested four individuals in separate anti-drug operations conducted across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the Zamboanga Peninsula from September 27 to 29.

A 17-year-old girl was also rescued during one of the operations after authorities dismantled a suspected drug den in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

The largest seizure took place on September 28 in Pababag village, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, where authorities recovered around three kilograms of suspected shabu valued at approximately P20.4 million.

The operation was conducted as a joint buy-bust involving anti-drug personnel, Marines, and local police. Authorities said a shootout occurred after the suspected drug seller and his companions allegedly realized they were dealing with law enforcement officers.

One suspect, identified only by the alias Bradel, was arrested after responding police officers arrived at the scene. Authorities said an undercover operative identified him as the person who allegedly handed over the illegal drugs during the transaction. His companions escaped.

Another operation was conducted on September 29 in Poblacion 5, Cotabato City, resulting in the arrest of a 22-year-old man known by the alias Ivan.

Authorities seized about 250 grams of suspected shabu packed in five heat-sealed plastic sachets, with an estimated value of P1.7 million. A mobile phone, buy-bust money, a belt bag, and other packaging materials were also recovered.

The operation was carried out by anti-drug personnel with assistance from police units and intelligence authorities.

Meanwhile, a separate buy-bust operation in Danlugan village, Pagadian City, on September 27 led to the dismantling of a suspected drug den.

A 39-year-old woman identified as a suspected drug den maintainer and a 28-year-old man described as an employee of the drug den were arrested. Authorities also rescued a 17-year-old girl who was found inside the premises and placed her under protective custody in accordance with applicable laws.

The operation yielded about seven grams of suspected shabu valued at P47,600. Authorities also recovered aluminum foil strips, an improvised tooter and scooper, disposable lighters, buy-bust money, and a mobile phone.

The Pagadian operation involved anti-drug personnel working with police units, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the 53rd Infantry Battalion.

Authorities said the four arrested suspects will face charges for alleged violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The separate operations highlight continued law enforcement efforts against the distribution of illegal drugs across BARMM and the Zamboanga Peninsula, while the rescue of the minor underscores the involvement of child-protection measures when minors are found in suspected drug-related environments. 
