A person who directed abusive and vulgar remarks at a Land Transport Authority (LTA) officer has been fined S$8,000 after being convicted under Singapore’s Protection from Harassment Act.
The individual, described as an appellant in correspondence with the LTA officer, made abusive and vulgar remarks during an exchange with the authority. LTA subsequently reported the matter to the police.
The person was later convicted under the Protection from Harassment Act 2014 and ordered to pay the S$8,000 fine. LTA said it does not tolerate threats or abuse directed at its officers and that such conduct will be reported to the police.
Singapore’s Protection from Harassment Act prohibits threatening, abusive, insulting, sexual or indecent communications that are likely to cause harassment, alarm, distress or humiliation. The legislation was amended in June 2026.
LTA said the case serves as a reminder that people who engage in abusive behaviour towards its officers can face legal consequences.
The authority added that it takes threats and abuse against its officers seriously and will take action through the appropriate authorities when such incidents occur.
