Taiwan’s NT$5,000 Travel Giveaway Attracts 53,000 Entries — Japan Leads the Rush

Taiwan’s latest tourism incentive has attracted more than 53,000 registrations, with Japanese travelers accounting for the largest share as the island steps up efforts to bring international visitors back.

Taiwan is drawing renewed interest from overseas travelers through a prize-draw program offering consumer credits worth up to NT$5,000 (about US$156) to eligible repeat visitors.

The initiative had recorded 53,304 registrations by Thursday, Oct. 8, according to Taiwan’s Tourism Administration. Japan ranked first among participating markets, followed by Hong Kong and Macau, South Korea, Singapore and the Philippines.

The campaign is designed to encourage international tourists who have visited Taiwan before to return for another trip, giving eligible travelers an additional incentive to plan a visit.

How the Taiwan travel giveaway works

The program covers trips taken from Oct. 10, 2026, through March 31, 2027.

Eligible international independent travelers who visited Taiwan between Jan. 1, 2023, and the date they register can enter a drawing for NT$5,000 in consumer credits.

Travelers accompanied by another person who meets the same eligibility conditions may also qualify for an additional NT$3,000 in credits, according to a report by CNA.

The first drawing was held at noon on Wednesday, with further draws scheduled weekly. Winners will be notified, the report said.

On the first drawing day, 4,652 repeat visitors registered, along with 896 accompanying travelers.

Japan leads registrations as Taiwan targets repeat tourism

Japan emerged as the biggest source of registrations, highlighting the importance of the market to Taiwan’s tourism outreach. Visitors from Hong Kong and Macau, South Korea, Singapore and the Philippines also featured among the leading groups.

The incentive comes as Taiwan continues to rebuild and expand its international visitor numbers.

From January through September 2026, Taiwan welcomed 6.17 million international visitors, up 1.93% from the same period in 2025, according to Tourism Administration data.

The administration also reported that Taiwan received 8.57 million visitors in 2025, with 42% having visited previously. Officials said the number of repeat visitors had returned to levels seen before the COVID-19 pandemic.

What travelers should know before registering

The giveaway is intended for eligible repeat visitors traveling independently, and applicants must meet the program’s previous-visit requirements. The additional credit for an accompanying traveler also depends on that person meeting the same conditions.

Travelers interested in participating should check the official program rules and registration details before making plans. A prize draw does not guarantee that every applicant will receive credits.

With registrations already exceeding 53,000, Taiwan’s campaign is adding another incentive for former visitors to consider returning during the promotional period.
