Taiwan’s Asian Games Medal Surge: 5 More Medals Arrive as 4×100 Relay Breaks National Record

Taiwan added five more medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, highlighted by a silver-medal performance from its men’s 4×100-meter relay team and four bronze medals across athletics, badminton, table tennis and shooting.

The men’s 4×100 relay team of Yang Chun-han, Lai Po-hsiang, Chen Wen-pu and Huang Tso-chun clocked 38.32 seconds, breaking Taiwan’s national record and securing the country’s first Asian Games men’s 4×100 relay medal since the 2010 Guangzhou Games.

The team had posted 38.80 seconds in qualifying before producing a significant improvement in the final.

Another athletics medal came from Lin Chung-wei, who captured bronze in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 48.74 seconds. He had entered the final after running 49.10 seconds in the heats.

Taiwan also collected bronze medals in three other events.

In badminton, mixed-doubles pair Ye Hong-wei and Zhan You-zhen secured bronze after reaching the semifinals. Their semifinal defeat to China’s Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin ended their run, but because the Asian Games event does not stage a bronze-medal match, the semifinal finish guaranteed the medal. It also ended Taiwan’s 16-year wait for an Asian Games mixed-doubles medal.

In table tennis, Lin Yun-ju earned bronze in men’s singles after losing a seven-game semifinal to China’s Lin Shidong. The result marked Lin Yun-ju’s first Asian Games men’s singles semifinal and added to his earlier team-event bronze.

Taiwan’s fifth medal of the day came in the women’s 25-meter pistol team event, where Cheng Yen-ching, Tien Chia-chen and Chen Yu-ru finished third with 1,734 points, behind China and South Korea.

With the five additional medals, Taiwan’s tally stood at 3 gold, 8 silver and 23 bronze medals — 34 medals overall, placing it 13th in the standings as of Monday night, according to Taiwan News.

With more events still unfolding, Taiwan’s medal campaign now has another question hanging over it: how much higher can the tally climb before the Asian Games come to a close?
