LISA’s “SaWaDiKa” Explodes Online as Thai Roots Take Center Stage

BLACKPINK star LISA is once again turning heads with her solo music — and this time, she is bringing Thailand with her.

The global K-pop superstar released “SaWaDiKa” on September 4, the first pre-release single from her upcoming six-track EP “PRESS PLAY,” and the response was immediate. The accompanying music video surged past millions of views shortly after release, with the Bangkok Post reporting more than 8 million views on its first day.

But the numbers are only part of the story.

“SaWaDiKa” represents a particularly personal chapter for LISA. The title is a stylized version of “sawasdee ka,” the traditional Thai greeting for “hello,” while the music video places Bangkok and Thai culture at the heart of the visual experience.

LISA puts Thailand at the center

Rather than simply using Bangkok as a backdrop, the new video incorporates recognizable elements of Thai culture, including Muay Thai, tuk-tuks, Thai fashion and traditional imagery.

The Nation Thailand reported that the video was filmed across several Bangkok locations, including the area surrounding Hua Lamphong, as well as other distinctive parts of the capital. The publication said the video surpassed 1 million views within its first hour and later reported more than 1.93 million views in two hours.

That visual strategy echoes LISA’s previous solo work.

Her 2024 hit “ROCKSTAR” famously showcased Bangkok’s Yaowarat district, helping turn familiar Thai street scenes into part of a globally consumed pop spectacle. “SaWaDiKa” expands that approach, using Bangkok’s architecture, street culture and Thai traditions as integral elements of the music video.

A stronger return to LISA’s rap identity

Musically, “SaWaDiKa” also signals a return to the harder-edged side of LISA’s artistry.

Yonhap described the track as a hip-hop-driven song that puts her rapping at the forefront, while GMA News reported that the production was handled by Thom Bridges and songwriting duo Ojivolta.

The result is a track built around LISA’s confident rap delivery and an instantly recognizable Thai-inspired hook.

That combination — global hip-hop production, LISA’s established pop persona and overt references to her Thai heritage — gives the single a distinctly personal identity.

The timing could hardly be bigger

“SaWaDiKa” is also arriving during an especially busy period in LISA’s career.

Her upcoming “PRESS PLAY” EP is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026, giving the new single the role of an early introduction to the project.

And LISA isn’t stopping with music.

Her documentary “Always Lalisa” is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 12, following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film explores her journey as a solo artist, her acting work and the creation of her company, LLOUD.

Then in November, she is scheduled to headline VIVA LA LISA at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on November 13–14 and November 27–28. Korean media reported that the four shows sold out within 10 minutes.

BLACKPINK members release solo music on the same day

There is another reason September 4 is significant for BLACKPINK fans.

LISA and fellow BLACKPINK member JISOO released solo music on the same day.

Yonhap reported that LISA released “SaWaDiKa” at 9 a.m. Korean time, followed by JISOO’s “Click” at 1 p.m. The releases come shortly after BLACKPINK celebrated its 10th debut anniversary.

That effectively turned the day into a major showcase of the group’s individual solo careers while BLACKPINK continues its activities as a group.

More than a viral music video?

The early numbers suggest “SaWaDiKa” has captured enormous attention, but its significance may go beyond streaming figures.

The song is effectively packaging Thai identity as global pop culture.

From the title and lyrics to Bangkok locations, Muay Thai references, tuk-tuks and Thai designers, LISA is using one of the world’s biggest K-pop platforms to put her home country’s culture in front of an international audience. The Nation and MGR Online both highlighted the release as another example of Thailand’s growing soft-power influence through LISA’s global career.

And with “PRESS PLAY,” her documentary and Las Vegas residency still ahead, the “SaWaDiKa” rollout appears to be only the beginning.

The bigger question now is whether LISA can turn this explosive opening into another career-defining global hit.
