One of the world’s most recognizable international airlines is turning to the Philippines for aviation talent as Emirates prepares to hold its first dedicated pilot recruitment roadshow in Manila on October 28 and 29, 2026.
The recruitment campaign comes as the carrier strengthens its workforce to support global passenger demand and a multibillion-dollar aircraft expansion program involving Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X jets.
However, the opportunity is not designed for inexperienced flight-school graduates. Emirates is primarily targeting qualified commercial pilots with substantial flight experience who are ready to transition into long-haul, wide-body aircraft operations.
The Manila recruitment event will be conducted in partnership with Industrial Personnel and Management Services Inc., giving interested Filipino aviators an opportunity to explore positions in one of the world’s largest international airline operations.
Emirates Opens Three Major Career Pathways for Filipino Pilots
The Dubai-based airline is recruiting candidates across three established career tracks, each designed for pilots at different stages of professional experience
First Officer
Starting from 2,000 flight hours. A route for experienced pilots seeking to join Emirates as commercial airline first officers.
Direct Entry Captain
Starting from 7,000 flight hours. Intended for highly experienced commanders who meet the airline’s additional operational qualifications.
Accelerated Command Programme
Starting from 5,000 flight hours. A career pathway for experienced pilots seeking an accelerated route toward command, subject to Emirates’ assessments and requirements.
These advertised flight-hour figures are starting points, not automatic guarantees of eligibility. Applicants must also satisfy the airline’s role-specific licensing, aircraft experience, medical and selection requirements.
According to Emirates’ official recruitment portal, the airline’s pilot selection process includes remote assessments followed by in-person evaluations in Dubai, including simulator testing and medical checks.
Emirates’ Massive Aircraft Expansion Is Driving Demand for Pilots
Behind the recruitment campaign is Emirates’ long-term investment in modern aircraft and fleet growth.

Fleet numbers reported by InsiderPH, citing Emirates’ recruitment announcement. Outstanding orders are not aircraft already delivered.
The reported fleet expansion demonstrates why airlines must recruit and train flight crews well before new jets begin carrying passengers.
Emirates’ investment in Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft is intended to support its future network and capacity requirements.
The airline’s recruitment needs are also linked to the specialized training required for wide-body aircraft, which are commonly used on medium- and long-haul international routes.
As aircraft deliveries progress, Emirates will need qualified pilots capable of meeting its operational and safety standards.
Filipino Pilots Could Train at Emirates’ $135-Million Dubai Facility
Another major attraction of the recruitment campaign is access to advanced flight training infrastructEmirates has invested approximately $135 million in a new crew training center in Dubai, featuring six full-flight simulator bays designed to support Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X training requirements.
Successful pilot recruits will undergo competency-based training to prepare them for the airline’s operational procedures and aircraft systems
The Manila information sessions will also introduce a Narrowbody to Widebody Direct Entry Captain campaign, potentially offering suitably qualified pilots transitioning from smaller commercial aircraft a route into Emirates’ wide-body fleet.
However, attendance at a recruitment session does not guarantee selection or employment.
Tax-Free Salaries, Accommodation and 42 Days of Annual Leave
Beyond aircraft training and international flight experience, Emirates is promoting employment benefits designed to attract experienced aviation professionals.
According to the recruitment information, these include:
- Tax-free salaries under the applicable UAE employment and tax framework.
- Up to 42 days of annual leave as described in the recruitment announcement.
- Accommodation benefits.
- Education allowances for eligible employees and dependents.
- Insurance coverage and additional employment benefits.
The precise compensation package depends on the position and applicable employment terms. Tax-free compensation in Dubai does not necessarily eliminate an employee’s tax obligations in other jurisdictions.
For pilots considering overseas employment, the attraction involves more than salary. Access to modern aircraft, international route experience, training and career progression may also influence their decisions.
These incentives underscore the competition among international carriers to secure experienced aviation professionals
Emirates Strengthens Its 36-Year Connection With the Philippines
The recruitment campaign builds on Emirates’ established presence in the Philippine aviation market.
The airline has served the country for approximately 36 years and, according to the October 8 announcement, operates 32 weekly flights connecting Manila, Cebu and Clark with Dubai.
Its Philippine services link Filipino travelers to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Americas and Asia through its Dubai hub.
Emirates country manager for the Philippines Khalid Al Zarooni expressed the airline’s intention to welcome additional Filipino pilots as its worldwide operations expand.
The move also follows earlier efforts to recruit Filipino aviation professionals. In October 2025, Emirates held Manila information sessions for aircraft engineers and technicians as part of a broader workforce recruitment campaign.
Taken together, these initiatives reflect Emirates’ continued interest in recruiting skilled aviation personnel from the Philippines, not just passenger-facing employees.
What the Recruitment Drive Could Mean for Philippine Airlines
Emirates’ growing interest in experienced Filipino pilots could create new international career opportunities for local aviators.
But the development also highlights an important issue facing the Philippine aviation industry: retaining skilled personnel while international airlines offer attractive employment packages.
Overseas recruitment may increase competition for experienced flight crews. Whether it will result in a measurable shortage among Philippine carriers, however, remains uncertain.
No verified evidence in the recruitment announcement establishes that Emirates’ upcoming roadshow will cause pilot shortages, flight disruptions or salary increases among domestic airlines.
The number of Filipino pilots Emirates intends to hire has also not been disclosed.
The challenge for Philippine aviation stakeholders is therefore to support professional development while maintaining a sustainable pipeline of qualified pilots for both domestic and international operations.
