The Department of Migrant Workers is preparing food, water and financial assistance for overseas Filipino workers affected by severe flooding and torrential rains in Bangkok, Thailand.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said about 50 OFWs have requested assistance as flooding disrupted communities in Bangkok and nearby areas. Initial reports indicated that some affected Filipinos were experiencing power interruptions and difficulty accessing food and water.
The DMW is coordinating with the Philippine Embassy in Thailand and the Migrant Workers Office in Bangkok to assess the immediate needs of the affected workers and determine the appropriate assistance.
Cacdac said the government is prepared to provide food and water as well as financial assistance to qualified OFWs who need support. However, the assistance will be delivered in coordination with Thai authorities to avoid interfering with ongoing emergency response operations.
The Philippine Embassy has also been distributing food and water to Filipinos affected by the flooding while working with Filipino community leaders to identify other groups requiring assistance.
The flooding followed days of heavy rainfall that affected Bangkok and nearby provinces, prompting local authorities to declare the Thai capital a disaster-affected area.
The DMW said affected OFWs and their families can seek assistance through the DMW-OWWA hotline and the Migrant Workers Office in Bangkok as government agencies continue monitoring conditions and coordinating with local authorities.
The response reflects the government’s efforts to provide emergency support to Filipinos overseas while ensuring that assistance is coordinated with the host country’s disaster-response operations.
