Davao City is expanding its peace education efforts in schools through enhanced learning modules designed to strengthen discipline, character formation, conflict management and responsible citizenship among students.
The Davao City Peace 911 and the Department of Education-Davao City conducted a three-day writeshop from September 25 to 27 to review and improve the Dabawenyo D.Cplinado modules. Educators, peacebuilding advocates and subject matter experts participated in the activity.
The enhanced modules build on the existing values-formation framework while adding lessons focused on conflict prevention and transformation, nonviolent communication, respect for diversity, responsible decision-making, anti-bullying and the prevention of school violence.
Students will also be introduced to digital citizenship and responsible online behavior, alongside lessons promoting a culture of peace and shared responsibility within their communities.
Peace 911 Acting Head Atty. Jonah Margarette F. Presto said the initiative seeks to bring peacebuilding beyond community programs and into the daily experiences of learners. The goal, she said, is for students to encounter peacebuilding concepts through their education and eventually bring those values into their families and communities.
The program also emphasizes that discipline goes beyond simply following rules. Educators involved in the initiative said the lessons are intended to help students understand respect, responsibility, compassion and decision-making as values that can influence their behavior both inside and outside the classroom.
DepEd-Davao City Schools Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario encouraged teachers to develop learning materials that do more than provide information. He said educational messages can help students develop habits that eventually become values and contribute to a broader culture of peace.
The Dabawenyo D.Cplinado modules were initially launched in 2024 for Grade 6 and Grade 10 students at Teodoro L. Palma Gil Elementary School.
The initiative has since expanded to private schools, with an official launch at Holy Child College of Davao on August 13, 2026. The expansion is intended to reach more young Dabawenyos and extend the program’s values-formation approach across different school communities.
The enhanced materials are expected to help students recognize and address conflicts constructively, understand differences, avoid violent behavior and make more responsible choices in both physical and digital spaces.
Through the partnership between Peace 911 and DepEd-Davao City, the peace education program is being positioned as part of a broader effort to develop young people who can contribute to safer schools, stronger families and communities built around shared responsibility for peace.
