Preparations for Sinulog 2027 are already underway, with organizers planning a more community-centered celebration that puts Cebuano culture, safety and inclusivity at the heart of the festival.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who chairs the Sinulog Foundation Inc., has called for a stronger “village feel” that would preserve the communal atmosphere that brings families, devotees, tourists and residents together in the streets of Cebu.
The Sinulog 2027 Executive Committee held its first meeting on September 16 to discuss the festival’s organizational structure, activities, logistics, marketing plans and participation of contingents for the January celebrations. Organizers also reviewed previous Sinulog events to determine which practices should be retained and which areas need improvement.
Osmeña said the appeal of Sinulog goes beyond Cebu’s buildings, malls and other developments. He emphasized that visitors also come for the atmosphere created when people gather in the streets to celebrate together.
The proposed community-centered approach is intended to bring people from different backgrounds and generations into one celebration while preserving Sinulog’s religious and cultural roots.
The festival will retain its theme, “One Beat. One Dance. One Vision,” alongside the Cebu City Government’s Cebu City 2035 development thrust of becoming “smart, sustainable and inclusive.”
Organizers are also preparing for a potentially larger number of contingents and spectators. Plans include coordination on the activity schedule, participating groups, logistics, sponsorships, marketing and other operational requirements.
Security preparations have likewise begun for the 362nd Fiesta Señor and Sinulog 2027. Cebu City police officials have started reviewing security measures used during previous celebrations and identifying areas that could be improved.
Police officials are expected to hold regular security meetings as preparations continue, with coordination planned among the city government, provincial government, church authorities, contingents and other agencies involved in the festival.
The 2027 celebration is therefore being planned not only as a large-scale festival, but also as a gathering designed to keep Cebu’s culture, faith and sense of community at the center as Sinulog continues to grow.
