Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Two LTA Officers During Ang Mo Kio Enforcement Operation

A 52-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting two Land Transport Authority (LTA) active mobility enforcement officers during an operation in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore.

The incident involved a male rider suspected of using a non-compliant device, LTA said in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 12). Police confirmed that the man was arrested on Oct 8.

He was arrested for allegedly voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from carrying out his duties. Investigations are ongoing.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or caning, according to the report.

LTA said it has zero tolerance for violence or abuse against its officers and would work with the police to ensure such incidents are dealt with firmly. It also urged members of the public to cooperate with enforcement officers and follow their instructions during checks.

503 offences detected in September

Separately, LTA active mobility enforcement officers detected 503 offences during operations in September, with 70 non-compliant devices impounded.

Photographs shared by LTA showed enforcement activities around Bukit Panjang, Balestier and Whampoa.

The authority said it would continue regular patrols and take action against errant users, including those riding non-compliant devices and cycling or riding on pedestrian overhead bridges.

The operations form part of efforts to improve safety for pedestrians and other users of Singapore’s shared paths.

The case involving the two LTA officers remains under investigation.
