Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM is expanding its international push into London, opening another front in the company’s strategy to take K-content beyond Asia and deepen its connections with overseas creators and entertainment businesses.
The latest partnership reflects the growing effort by major Korean content companies to build international networks around Korean stories, production capabilities and intellectual property.
For CJ ENM, the move comes as the company continues to pursue global expansion through partnerships, overseas production and broader distribution. Its strategy has included collaboration with international companies and efforts to develop content that can reach audiences well beyond the Korean market.
The company has previously said it intends to strengthen its global competitiveness by combining its production resources with international partners. CJ ENM has also explored overseas drama production, with global projects under development and a focus on markets including the United States and Japan.
The London move comes at a time when Korean entertainment is increasingly being positioned as part of the wider global content industry rather than a regional phenomenon.
That shift is also reflected in recent discussions involving Korean and international entertainment companies. At a September roundtable in France, CJ ENM CEO Yoon Sang-hyun joined executives from companies including Naver, Mediawan and Netflix to discuss stronger connections between local content creators and global distribution platforms.
CJ ENM has also been expanding its partnership strategy elsewhere in Asia. In April, the company established a joint venture with Japan’s TBS and U-NEXT Holdings aimed at discovering intellectual property, producing content and distributing it globally.
The London partnership therefore represents another piece of a much larger international strategy: connecting Korean creative talent and production capabilities with audiences, partners and platforms around the world.
And with London serving as one of the world’s major entertainment and cultural hubs, the question now is how far CJ ENM’s latest K-content expansion can go — and what kind of Korean stories could emerge from this new international connection.
