Perez Hilton has reconnected with his three children and his mother while continuing treatment following an August mental health crisis and suicide attempt.
The 48-year-old celebrity blogger, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., remains in a residential treatment facility as he focuses on his mental health and recovery. His family shared the latest update on September 29.
According to his family, Hilton first reconnected with his children and mother through several video calls. He has since been allowed to have short, supervised in-person visits with them at the treatment facility. His family described the meetings as emotional and meaningful.
Hilton is the father of three children: son Mario, 13, and daughters Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8. His mother, Teresita Lavandeira, was granted temporary custody of the children after Hilton’s hospitalization.
The family said communication with Hilton remains limited because the current priority is giving him time and space to concentrate on treatment. They said he continues working with his care team to understand the circumstances surrounding his crisis, recognize warning signs and develop healthier coping strategies.
Hilton was hospitalized on August 4 after authorities responded to reports of a serious mental health crisis at his Miami home. He was later transferred to a residential treatment program after spending several weeks in hospital care for his physical injuries.
His mother assumed temporary custody of the children while he undergoes treatment. Earlier court proceedings also allowed Hilton to have supervised visits, with supervision provided by an approved family member or mental health professional.
The family has not provided a timeline for when Hilton will leave residential treatment or return home. They said they are following guidance from doctors, psychiatrists, therapists and other professionals involved in his care rather than rushing the process.
A fundraiser has also been established to help Hilton’s mother cover expenses associated with caring for his three children during his treatment. The family expressed appreciation for the support and messages they have received.
For now, Hilton’s family says they are taking his recovery one day at a time. The recent visits with his children mark a significant development in his ongoing treatment, while his care team continues to focus on his recovery and eventual return home.
