BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Taiwan is taking its culture and tourism ambitions to a much wider audience after showcasing its food, tea traditions, calligraphy and cultural heritage at one of Latin America’s major travel events.
Taiwan participated in the four-day International Tourism Fair of Latin America in Buenos Aires, held from Saturday through Tuesday, giving visitors from across the region a closer look at what the island has to offer beyond its technology-driven image.
The event attracted more than 150,000 visitors and participants from 62 countries, according to CNA, highlighting the scale of the international tourism platform.
Taiwan’s pavilion incorporated cultural experiences into its tourism promotion, including glove puppetry, tea ceremonies, calligraphy activities and tourism information sessions.
Taiwan’s representative to Argentina, Hsieh Miao-hung, said the activities gave Argentine visitors opportunities to discover different aspects of Taiwanese culture while learning more about potential destinations across the island.
Young Taiwanese Argentines from FASCA also participated, helping introduce Taiwan’s cultural traditions and travel opportunities to visitors at the fair.
The Taipei Commercial and Cultural Office in Argentina said the goal was to leave visitors with a taste of Taiwan, a new story and an interest in making Taiwan their next travel destination.
The appearance marks Taiwan’s second participation in the International Tourism Fair of Latin America and comes as Taiwan continues expanding its tourism promotion efforts in overseas markets.
With Latin American travelers increasingly exposed to Taiwan through its culture, cuisine and tourism campaigns, the Buenos Aires event offered Taiwan another opportunity to turn cultural curiosity into future visits.
And with more than 150,000 people passing through the fair, the bigger question is what this growing international interest could mean for Taiwan’s tourism ambitions next.
