ARAGON, Spain — Marc Márquez delivered another statement performance at MotorLand Aragón on Sunday, winning the 2026 Aragon Grand Prix to complete a perfect weekend and slash Jorge Martín’s lead in the MotoGP world championship.
The Ducati Lenovo rider overcame an early challenge from Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi before taking control of the race, securing his third consecutive Aragon Grand Prix victory and his eighth premier-class win at the Spanish circuit.
KTM’s Pedro Acosta finished second after keeping the pressure on, while polesitter Bezzecchi completed the podium in third. Álex Márquez took fourth, with championship leader Martín finishing fifth.
The victory marked a major swing in the championship battle.
After winning Saturday’s sprint race, Márquez collected maximum points from the Aragon weekend to move up to 237 points. He also overtook Bezzecchi, who has 232 points, to take second place in the standings. Martín remains the championship leader on 256 points, but his advantage over Márquez has been cut to just 19 points.
A Difficult Start, Then a Familiar Aragon Masterclass
The race was not without drama for Márquez. Reuters reported that the Ducati rider had an early issue involving his rear ride-height device, but he recovered quickly and produced the pace that has made MotorLand Aragón one of his most successful venues.
Bezzecchi, who had claimed pole position after setting a new lap record in qualifying, initially presented the biggest obstacle. But Márquez made a decisive move for the lead on lap six and gradually pulled clear, ultimately taking the chequered flag ahead of Acosta and Bezzecchi.
The result underlined Márquez’s remarkable record on anti-clockwise circuits and, more importantly, changed the complexion of the championship heading into the next phase of the season.
From a 33-Point Deficit to a 19-Point Fight
The Aragon weekend could prove to be a turning point.
Márquez arrived in Spain trailing Martín by 33 points, but his sprint and Grand Prix victories allowed him to make a significant dent in the Aprilia rider’s advantage. Martín still leads the standings, but the margin is now small enough to put the reigning champion firmly back in the title conversation.
That momentum is particularly significant after Martín had strengthened his position earlier in the season, including a strong weekend at Silverstone. MotoGP’s official coverage had described the championship as tightly contested even before Aragon, with several riders still within striking distance.
Acosta Shines as Bezzecchi Holds On
While Márquez celebrated another memorable victory, Pedro Acosta delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend.
The KTM rider stayed competitive throughout the race to claim second place, continuing his push for a breakthrough maiden MotoGP victory. Bezzecchi, meanwhile, converted his record-breaking pole position into a podium finish, even though he was unable to keep Márquez behind him when it mattered most.
Álex Márquez’s fourth-place finish also capped a strong home weekend for the Márquez brothers, while Martín limited the damage by finishing fifth and retaining the championship lead.
The Title Race Is Far From Over
With Márquez now just 19 points behind Martín, the pressure is building.
Aragon showed that the reigning champion remains capable of turning momentum in his favor, particularly at circuits that suit his aggressive style. But Martín still holds the advantage, while Bezzecchi remains only five points behind Márquez in a three-way battle at the top.
The numbers tell the story: 256 points for Martín, 237 for Márquez and 232 for Bezzecchi.
One dominant weekend has transformed the championship picture.
And with the season moving toward its decisive stretch, MotoGP fans are now asking the question that seemed far less likely just days ago:
