South Korea’s newest panda celebrity finally has a name—and her incredible growth is already giving fans another reason to fall in love.
Shu Bao (曙寶), the youngest member of Everland’s famous Bao family and the youngest sibling of beloved panda Fu Bao, has officially received her name as she reaches her 100th day of life.
Born at Everland’s Panda World on June 3, 2026, Shu Bao weighed just 171 grams at birth. By her 100th day, her weight had climbed to 5.5 kilograms, meaning she has grown more than 30 times heavier in just over three months.
The dramatic transformation is the latest milestone in the story of the panda family that has become one of South Korea’s biggest animal attractions.
From 171 grams to 5.5 kilograms
Shu Bao was born to mother Ai Bao and father Le Bao at 10:53 a.m. on June 3.
She is the couple’s fourth cub, following Fu Bao, born in 2020, and twins Rui Bao and Hui Bao, born in 2023.
At birth, Shu Bao was tiny enough to weigh only 171 grams.
Her rapid development has been closely monitored by Everland’s animal-care team. A health check reported in August put her at approximately 3.7 kilograms, already more than 20 times her birth weight.
Now, at 100 days old, she has reached 5.5 kilograms.
That remarkable increase has become one of the biggest talking points surrounding her official naming ceremony.
Why the name Shu Bao?
Everland announced on September 11 that the cub would be named Shu Bao, written as 曙寶.
The name carries the meaning of a “bright treasure like the light of dawn,” a fitting description for a panda that has quickly become the newest star of the Bao family.
The name was selected through a nationwide public naming process.
More than 10,000 suggestions were submitted during the initial stage, after which Everland narrowed the choices to five finalists.
The final candidates were:
- Zhu Bao
- Jun Bao
- Lin Bao
- You Bao
- Shu Bao
All five followed the family’s “Bao” naming tradition, with “Bao” meaning treasure in Chinese.
The final public vote attracted about 220,000 votes, with Shu Bao receiving 42% and emerging as the winner, according to SBS.
The Bao family’s youngest star
Shu Bao’s arrival has extended one of South Korea’s most recognizable giant-panda family stories.
Her older sister Fu Bao became a national sensation after being born at Everland in 2020. Fu Bao was the first giant panda born in South Korea and developed a particularly strong following before being transferred to China in 2024 under the countries’ panda cooperation arrangement.
Rui Bao and Hui Bao, the twins born in 2023, further expanded the family’s popularity.
Now Shu Bao is carrying that attention forward.
But unlike Fu Bao, who became famous as Korea’s first homegrown panda cub, Shu Bao has arrived into a world where an enormous fan base is already waiting to watch virtually every stage of her development.
When will fans finally see Shu Bao?
For now, Everland is continuing to monitor the cub’s development and adjustment to her surroundings.
The theme park said it is considering putting Shu Bao on public display before the end of the year, depending on her adaptation to the external environment and her overall condition.
That means the next major milestone could be the moment panda fans finally get to see Shu Bao in person.
Until then, her growth will continue to be followed closely through Everland’s official channels.
