Former NewJeans member Danielle Marsh has made her first major public move toward an independent chapter, launching a personal YouTube channel and immediately drawing intense attention from fans around the world.
Her first video, titled “Detour,” was uploaded on September 3 and surpassed 1.8 million views within roughly one day, according to The Korea Times and SBS. The video also accumulated about 170,000 likes, underscoring the enormous interest surrounding Danielle’s activities following her departure from NewJeans.
But while Danielle has not officially announced a solo music debut, her choice of words has already sent fans into speculation mode.
Danielle opens a new chapter
In the approximately 1-minute-40-second video, Danielle appears casually dressed while filming herself in Australia.
She explains that she returned to her hometown because she missed the area’s nature, the sea and, most importantly, her family. She also talks about spending time swimming, visiting Caves Beach and enjoying meals with her relatives.
The mood of the video is notably different from the polished promotional content typically associated with K-pop releases. Instead, Danielle presents a quieter and more personal side of herself.
She also acknowledges that filming alone feels unfamiliar.
Then comes the line that has caught fans’ attention: Danielle talks about looking forward to a “new adventure of my own” and reveals that she is preparing for her first solo trip, with Brisbane and Cairns on her itinerary.
That does not amount to an official confirmation of a solo music career. However, the timing and wording have naturally fueled speculation that Danielle could be preparing for a new phase of her career outside NewJeans.
The 1.8 million-view milestone
The response to “Detour” was immediate.
Within a day, the video had crossed 1.8 million views, while fan comments poured in from both Korea and overseas. Korea Times reported that the video had also received around 170,000 likes during that period.
SBS independently reported the same 1.8-million-view milestone and described the upload as Danielle’s first video on her personal YouTube channel.
Soompi likewise reported that Danielle used the video to update fans on her life in Australia, including her time with family and activities around her hometown.
The numbers suggest that even without a music release, Danielle continues to command substantial attention as an individual artist.
Why Danielle’s next move matters
Danielle’s YouTube launch comes against the backdrop of the highly publicized legal dispute between the former NewJeans member and ADOR.
ADOR notified Danielle in December that it was terminating her exclusive contract, stating that it had determined it would be difficult to continue working with her as a NewJeans member and ADOR artist. The agency subsequently pursued a damages case involving Danielle, one family member and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.
The dispute has continued into 2026.
Korea JoongAng Daily reported in July that Danielle’s legal representatives denied allegations that she had signed an overlapping exclusive contract with another company. The report said ADOR’s combined damages claim involving Danielle, a family member and Min Hee-jin had been reduced to 33.1 billion won.
SBS also reported that the legal dispute remains ongoing, while noting that ADOR won the first trial concerning the validity of the exclusive contract and that Haerin, Hyein and Hanni subsequently returned to ADOR.
A personal video — but potentially a major career signal
For now, Danielle has not announced an official solo album, solo single or new entertainment agency through the YouTube video.
That distinction matters.
What she has confirmed is much more personal: she has returned to Australia, spent time with her family, launched her own YouTube presence and announced her first solo trip.
Yet the scale of the reaction shows that fans are watching closely.
Her first upload is already being interpreted as something larger than a simple travel or lifestyle video — potentially the first public chapter of Danielle’s independent career.
And with more than 1.8 million views in approximately one day, the audience appears ready to see what comes next.
For Danielle, the “detour” may turn out to be the beginning of an entirely new road.
