Singaporean actress Apple Chan has welcomed her second child earlier than expected after a difficult pregnancy that resulted in an emergency Caesarean section.
The 37-year-old actress revealed on Sept. 22 that her baby girl was born at 32 weeks, after doctors closely monitored her because the baby was not growing as well as hoped.
At 31 weeks, the baby weighed around 1.1kg. Chan was admitted to hospital for monitoring, but her situation changed rapidly when her water bag broke that same night.
Doctors had initially hoped to keep the baby in the womb for as long as possible. Within days, however, Chan had to undergo an emergency C-section and her daughter was delivered prematurely.
Chan described the experience as happening “so fast and unexpectedly”, and said she was still trying to process everything.
In an emotional message to her newborn daughter, she said she wished she could have kept the baby safely inside her for longer and taken on the challenges herself.
Instead, she said she would remain beside her daughter through every small step forward, milestone and day of recovery.
The actress also shared that her older son is looking forward to meeting his baby sister and giving her a “big bear hug”.
The newborn’s current condition and length of hospital stay have not been publicly disclosed. Babies born at 32 weeks are considered moderately preterm and commonly require specialised hospital care, including monitoring of breathing, feeding, temperature and weight gain.
Chan’s pregnancy had been announced on Mother’s Day in May, when she revealed that she and her husband, entrepreneur Jensen Goh, were expecting their second child. She had previously joked that she had used an AI-generated family photo showing a second baby before revealing that the pregnancy was actually real.
The pregnancy also forced Chan to put her acting comeback on hold. She had been preparing to return to the screen after nearly three years away, but had to turn down two acting opportunities because of her pregnancy.
Chan and Goh married in 2024 and welcomed their first child, a son nicknamed Lil A, in August that year.
Best known for her roles in Ah Boys Go Army 4 and Ah Girls Go Army, the Hong Kong-born actress has now entered a very different chapter of her life — caring for a newborn who arrived weeks earlier than planned.
For now, Chan’s focus is firmly on her daughter getting stronger, with the actress telling her baby that she will be there through every tiny step until the day they can finally go home together.
