Jayuard Alciso secured the bronze medal in the men’s shortboard surfing event at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after defeating fellow Filipino surfer Toby Espejon in an all-Filipino battle for third place.
Alciso posted a score of 11.64, beating Espejon’s 8.90 in the bronze-medal matchup. The result gave the Philippines another podium finish in surfing at the continental competition.
The all-Filipino contest made the medal race particularly significant for the Philippine delegation, with both surfers having advanced deep into the competition and guaranteed another medal for the country.
Alciso’s bronze adds to the Philippines’ growing medal haul at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, while Espejon finished fourth after falling short in the battle for the final podium spot.
The result also highlights the Philippines’ developing presence in competitive surfing, with the sport continuing to provide opportunities for Filipino athletes to compete against Asia’s leading surfers on the continental stage.
