Three men and a woman have been arrested after a fight broke out outside a restaurant along Geylang Road in the early hours of Sept. 23.
The incident happened at about 1am outside Dongbei Jiaozi Wang at 386 Geylang Road. A video circulating online showed four people pushing and pulling one another along a walkway, with one person appearing to be pinned to the ground. Two people in red uniforms were also seen attempting to break up the confrontation.
A restaurant employee said the people involved were not customers of the eatery and that he did not know what had led to the fight.
A nearby grocery shop owner also said he did not witness the incident because his store had closed at around 11pm. He noted that the area has several restaurants and bars and that drunken patrons can sometimes cause trouble on weekends.
Police said they were alerted to the fight at 386 Geylang Road at about 1am on Sept. 23.
Three men aged between 30 and 42 and a 31-year-old woman were arrested for affray. The woman and a 36-year-old man were taken to hospital while conscious.
The arrests came after officers responded to the reported confrontation and established the identities of those involved. Police investigations are ongoing.
The incident has drawn attention because of its location in one of Geylang’s busy late-night dining and entertainment areas, where restaurants, eateries and bars operate close to one another.
The circumstances that triggered the fight, including whether the individuals knew one another and what led to the physical confrontation, have not been disclosed.
The four arrested individuals remain under investigation, and the allegations have not been tested in court.
The latest case puts renewed attention on late-night disturbances in busy entertainment districts, where relatively small disputes can quickly escalate into public fights.
