BANGKOK, Thailand — Thai pianist and composer Nat Yontararak is preparing to unveil a new musical story with the world premiere of “Rabbit’s Tale,” an original piano suite inspired by childhood imagination, emotion and the bond between a child and a parent.
The premiere is scheduled for September 20, 2026, at 4 p.m. at Sala Sudasiri Sobha in Bangkok, in a production presented by SALA in collaboration with The Rainbow Room Foundation.
A Rabbit’s Journey Told Through Music
At the heart of “Rabbit’s Tale” is the story of a little rabbit who decides to run away from his mother.
As the story unfolds, the rabbit imagines transforming into different things—including a fish, a mountain and a bird—as he searches for a world beyond home. Yet wherever the rabbit imagines going, his mother continues to find ways to protect him.
The musical work draws on melodies composed by Kamolvan Punyashthiti, which Yontararak has reimagined for solo piano. The performance combines piano music with singing, narration and traditional Thai instruments, creating a theatrical musical experience rather than a conventional piano recital.
Designed as a Relaxed Performance
One of the most distinctive aspects of the Bangkok premiere is its Relaxed Performance format.
Organizers describe the production as a performance intended to welcome a broad audience, including people who may find conventional concert environments challenging. The initiative is being presented in collaboration with the Rainbow Room Foundation as part of its focus on a more inclusive and neurodiversity-friendly cultural experience.
Rather than focusing solely on formal concert conventions, the production is designed to make the experience more comfortable and accessible for audiences.
That approach gives “Rabbit’s Tale” a broader purpose: the concert is not only about introducing a new composition, but also about exploring how classical and contemporary musical performances can become more welcoming spaces.
Music, Storytelling and Thai Culture
The production brings together several artistic elements.
Alongside Yontararak at the piano, the presentation features narration, vocals and the Cherubim Children’s Choir, with traditional Thai musical elements incorporated into the storytelling.
The combination allows the audience to experience the rabbit’s journey through different forms of expression rather than through instrumental music alone.
The result is intended to appeal to both children and adults, with humor, playfulness, excitement and tenderness woven into the narrative.
Nat Yontararak Takes on a Different Musical Story
Known for his work as a Thai pianist and composer, Yontararak is taking a different creative direction with “Rabbit’s Tale,” moving into a musical format built around storytelling and childhood imagination.
The project also connects with his broader role in Thailand’s classical-music community. The concert listings identify him as a Silapatorn Artist and Steinway Artist.
For audiences accustomed to traditional piano recitals, “Rabbit’s Tale” offers something different: a performance in which the piano becomes part of a larger narrative involving characters, voices and Thai musical traditions.
Bangkok Premiere Set for September 20
The world premiere will take place at Sala Sudasiri Sobha, with tickets listed at THB 1,000 for adults and THB 500 for students, while a family ticket option is also available.
The production’s combination of original piano music, storytelling and an accessible performance format makes “Rabbit’s Tale” an unusual addition to Bangkok’s 2026 cultural calendar.
