SEOUL, South Korea — K-pop girl group ILLIT is officially making its comeback this October, with BELIFT LAB announcing that the group will release its fifth EP, “BREAK EVEN,” on October 26, 2026.
The new release will mark ILLIT’s first Korean comeback in about six months, following the group’s fourth mini album, “MAMIHLAPINATAPAI,” which arrived in April.
The announcement immediately puts ILLIT among the K-pop acts to watch as the industry heads into a packed final quarter of 2026.
‘BREAK EVEN’ signals a new chapter for ILLIT
According to BELIFT LAB, the title “BREAK EVEN” takes its name from the economic term describing a point at which there is neither profit nor loss.
But the concept goes beyond its business-inspired title.
The agency says the new EP centers on a more decisive emotional message: ILLIT will no longer invest their time and feelings in a relationship that does not give back in equal measure.
That represents a shift from the group’s previous approach of moving directly toward someone they care about. This time, the message is expected to be more assertive, with ILLIT confronting a partner whose feelings remain lukewarm.
The concept gives the upcoming release a clear narrative of emotional boundaries and a turning point in a relationship.
Six months after ‘MAMIHLAPINATAPAI’
ILLIT’s previous Korean release, “MAMIHLAPINATAPAI,” was released in April and featured the lead single “It’s Me.”
BELIFT LAB describes that album as exploring the complicated emotions that emerge as a relationship becomes closer, including the uncertainty that can exist between attraction and deeper feelings.
With “BREAK EVEN,” ILLIT appears ready to move that storyline forward — from uncertainty and emotional investment toward a more confident decision about what they are willing to accept.
A busy period ahead for the group
The October comeback will arrive during an especially active period for ILLIT.
The group is also scheduled to hold encore concerts for its “ILLIT LIVE ‘PRESS START♥’” tour in South Korea on October 17 and 18 at INSPIRE Arena in Incheon. Additional Japan encore shows are scheduled for December.
The timing means fans can expect the group’s new music and live activities to overlap during the same month, potentially making October one of ILLIT’s busiest periods of the year.
ILLIT has also continued expanding its activities in Japan. A Japanese digital single, “Swingin’ Magic,” is scheduled for September 21 and will serve as an opening theme for the anime Mahou no Shimai Lulutto Lily.
Why fans are watching the comeback closely
Since debuting, ILLIT has established a recognizable identity built around youthful pop, emotional storytelling and distinctive concepts.
“BREAK EVEN” could give the group another opportunity to broaden that identity.
Rather than simply returning with another relationship-themed release, the album’s central idea introduces a more self-assured perspective: knowing when emotional investment is no longer being returned.
