A group of Singapore schoolchildren got an early taste of a colorful new Sesame Street experience at Marina Square — combining contemporary art, interactive installations and playful activities.
On September 28, 15 beneficiaries of The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF), accompanied by two teachers from Lianhua Primary School, received a preview of Sesame Street Magical Art World Chapter 2 ahead of its public opening on October 1.
The children, aged between nine and 11, explored the multisensory exhibition across three units on Marina Square’s third level.
Instead of simply looking at artwork, the pupils were encouraged to interact with the installations — dancing, drawing, exploring sensory displays and completing an activity booklet as they moved through the exhibition.
Sesame Street Gets a Contemporary Art Makeover
Chapter 2 brings together a new group of artists from around the world, each giving familiar Sesame Street characters a distinctive artistic interpretation.
The exhibition includes spaces such as Reflections of Neon, where visitors can interact with mirrors, lights and playful words, and Doodle Wonderland, which invites guests to draw and color on Sesame Street-inspired illustrations.
Other experiences include colorful shadow effects, interactive sound installations, optical illusions and a dedicated painting gallery featuring works by international artists.
The result is an exhibition that blends the recognizable world of Sesame Street with contemporary art and hands-on experiences.
A Day of Art, Play and Discovery
For the STSPMF beneficiaries, the preview offered more than a chance to see the exhibition before everyone else.
The children took part in activities designed to encourage creativity and exploration. Those who completed the exhibition’s activity booklet could receive a limited-edition sticker featuring artwork from participating artists, while supplies last.
The experience also gave the pupils an opportunity to engage with art in a less traditional setting — through movement, drawing, sensory activities and interactive installations.
When Can the Public Visit?
Sesame Street Magical Art World Chapter 2 will open to the public at Marina Square on October 1, 2026, and continue through December 31.
Visitors can redeem admission passes through qualifying purchases at Marina Square. The mall says a 30-minute admission pass can be redeemed with a minimum spend of S$20 on weekdays or S$30 from Friday through Sunday, subject to availability and the exhibition’s terms and conditions.
The experience is scheduled to continue with Chapter 3 from January 8 to March 21, 2027, also at Marina Square.
A Bigger Mission Behind the Visit
The preview also highlighted the role of the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, which supports children and youth from lower-income families with school-related expenses.
Since its establishment in 2000, the fund has supported more than 230,000 children and young people and distributed more than S$110 million, according to The Straits Times.
The Sesame Street exhibition therefore arrives with two different kinds of appeal: a colorful contemporary-art experience for families and a community-focused event that gave participating children an opportunity to explore, create and simply enjoy a memorable day out.
As Marina Square prepares to open the doors to the public, Sesame Street is once again stepping beyond television screens — this time into an immersive world where art, imagination and childhood memories meet.
