SINGAPORE — A 25-year-old man was found dead at Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) Hall 13 on Monday night, Aug. 31, prompting a police and emergency response on campus.
Singapore police said they received a call for assistance at about 11pm at 32 Nanyang Crescent, the address of Hall 13. The man was found lying motionless and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic.
Police said preliminary investigations do not indicate foul play, but investigations remain ongoing.
NTU confirms student’s death
NTU said it was “deeply saddened” by the death of a student on campus.
The university said its Campus Security responded to a call for assistance that night before contacting the police and SCDF paramedics.
NTU added that its wellbeing staff and counsellors are supporting the student’s family, affected students and the wider campus community.
The university said it could not provide further details while police investigations continue.
Emergency response reported at Hall 13
The incident occurred at 32 Nanyang Crescent, where NTU’s Hall 13 is located.
NTU’s official accommodation information confirms that Hall 13 is one of the university’s residential halls and has a capacity of about 600 beds.
Reports from Stomp and Must Share News said police and SCDF personnel were seen at the hall following the emergency call. Stomp reported that an NTU student said emergency responders were present at around 11.18pm, although accounts circulating among students were not independently able to establish what had happened.
That distinction is important: there is currently no verified public information establishing how the student died or what happened inside the hall.
What police have — and have not — said
At this stage, authorities have confirmed three key facts:
- A 25-year-old man was found at Hall 13.
- He was found lying motionless and was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.
