The Miss World 2026 finale is set to take place on September 5 in Nha Trang, Vietnam, where 111 national delegates will battle for the coveted blue crown in what is also a landmark celebration of Miss World’s 75th anniversary.
But this year’s coronation night will be different from a conventional pageant.
Instead of simply watching contestants progress through familiar elimination rounds, viewers will see a revamped competition format that takes the field from Top 40 to Top 20, Top 12 and finally Top 6, before the new Miss World and two runners-up are announced.
And for Filipino pageant fans, one name will command particular attention: Asia Rose Simpson, the Philippines’ representative, who has already secured a place in the Top 40.
A historic Miss World finale in Vietnam
The 2026 edition marks the first time Vietnam has hosted Miss World, while the competition simultaneously celebrates 75 years since the pageant was founded in 1951. More than 120 contestants were initially expected for the Vietnam leg, with 111 national ambassadors ultimately competing in the 2026 edition.
The grand finale will be staged at April 2 Square in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, with Vietnamese media reporting a large outdoor production and thousands of spectators expected to attend.
The reigning Miss World, Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, will crown her successor.
The road to the crown gets tougher
The biggest talking point of Miss World 2026 is the competition’s new selection system.
According to the official Miss World format, the first major cut will produce a Top 40, divided equally among four continental regions:
- Africa
- Americas & Caribbean
- Asia & Oceania
- Europe
Each region will contribute 10 quarterfinalists. Some contestants have already earned their places through fast-track competitions, while other spots will be decided by judges.
From there, the field will be reduced to Top 20.
Five automatic places will come through the major challenge categories, including Beauty With a Purpose, Multimedia, Head-to-Head and Top Model. The judges will select the remaining 15 contestants while maintaining the continental balance.
Then comes an even more dramatic cut.
Only six will remain
The Top 20 will be reduced to a Top 12, with the judges selecting contestants from the four continental groups alongside Beauty With a Purpose qualifiers and two People’s Choice selections.
The competition will then narrow to just six finalists:
- One from Beauty With a Purpose
- One from Africa
- One from the Americas & Caribbean
- One from Asia & Oceania
- One from Europe
- One People’s Choice finalist
Those six women will compete for the crown, with the judges ultimately deciding the Miss World 2026, first runner-up and second runner-up.
That structure makes every stage potentially decisive—and gives the public a much larger role than in previous editions.
Asia Rose Simpson enters the finale with momentum
For the Philippines, Asia Rose Simpson heads into the final with significant momentum.
The Filipino-American beauty queen secured an automatic Top 40 berth after winning the Asia & Oceania division of the Head-to-Head Challenge. Her answer focused on preserving cultural identity while embracing modernization, highlighting Filipino concepts such as kapwa and bayanihan. GMA News and DZRH both reported her regional victory and resulting Top 40 qualification.
But that is far from her only achievement.
Simpson also reached the Top 3 of the Talent Challenge, performing her original dance piece “Succor,” a work centered on hope, healing and mental-health struggles. England’s Grace Richardson won the competition, while Guadeloupe’s Annaelle Ibo finished second.
She also made the Top 24 in the Sports Challenge and became a finalist in Beauty With a Purpose, adding to an increasingly strong campaign ahead of the finale.
Most recently, Simpson showcased Filipino culture through “Pandanggo sa Ilaw” during the Dances of the World presentation.
The Philippines is chasing another Miss World crown
Simpson is attempting to become only the second Filipina to win Miss World, following Megan Young, who captured the country’s first Miss World crown in 2013.
Her campaign has also generated attention beyond the Philippines. GMA reported that Simpson ranked No. 2 in Missosology’s first Miss World 2026 Hot Picks, behind Brazil’s Gabriela Botelho.
Still, predictions are not crowns.
The new Miss World format means that even contestants who have performed strongly in the preliminary challenges will have to deliver when the decisive rounds begin.
Another twist: the People’s Choice vote
The public vote could become one of the night’s biggest storylines.
The official rules state that the first phase of People’s Choice voting determines four continental winners, with voting closing at 10 p.m. Vietnam time on September 4. Voting then continues during the competition, ultimately helping determine contestants who can advance toward the Top 12 and Top 6.
That means fans still have a potentially crucial role to play as the competition approaches its climax.
For Simpson, that could make the final hours particularly important.
More than a beauty pageant
Miss World continues to place its Beauty With a Purpose philosophy at the center of the competition, emphasizing humanitarian work, advocacy and community impact alongside beauty, communication and performance.
The 2026 contestants have spent weeks traveling across Vietnam, participating in cultural activities, charity initiatives, challenges and fashion events before reaching the final stage in Nha Trang.
The latest Top Model competition also showed how deeply Vietnamese culture has been incorporated into this year’s festival, with contestants presenting Vietnamese designers and cultural elements before the four continental winners were announced.
Now, everything comes down to one night
After weeks of challenges, advocacy presentations, talent performances, sports competitions, interviews, fashion events and cultural showcases, Miss World 2026 will ultimately come down to six finalists and one final decision.
For Asia Rose Simpson, the mission is clear: turn an already impressive preliminary campaign into the Philippines’ second Miss World crown.
But with 111 delegates beginning the journey and only six women ultimately reaching the final stage, the biggest question remains unanswered:
Will Asia Rose Simpson’s momentum carry her all the way to the blue crown—or will another contender seize the Miss World title in Vietnam?
