A 43-year-old man in Kedah, Malaysia, has been arrested after his 39-year-old wife died following a domestic dispute at their home in Kulim.
Police said the incident happened on Monday night, Sept 14, after an argument between the couple, which investigators believe may have been linked to jealousy.
The woman, identified as S. Sila, was taken to Kulim Hospital by family members but was pronounced dead at about 9.30pm.
Husband Turns Himself In
The woman’s husband, who is unemployed, surrendered himself to police shortly after the incident.
Police said he admitted to attacking his wife and handed over a 20cm folding knife that investigators believe was used during the incident.
The couple lived at the house with their three-year-old child.
Police found what appeared to be blood traces on the bedsheet, pillow, headboard and several items on the bed. Investigators collected 11 samples from the scene as part of their probe.
Child Handed to Relative
After the incident, the man reportedly took a bath before collecting the couple’s child from a babysitter.
He then brought the child to his sister in Penang and reportedly told her that he had attacked his wife before surrendering to police.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The woman’s body was later taken to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem examination.
Case Investigated as Suspected Murder
Kulim police chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of Malaysia’s Penal Code.
Police are continuing to establish the sequence of events leading up to the woman’s death, including the circumstances of the argument between the couple.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the death.
