MANILA, Philippines — A 23-year-old man allegedly stole a customized revolver from the home of a retired judge in Pandacan, Manila, but his attempt to conceal his identity reportedly unraveled after he left behind one crucial piece of evidence: his slippers.
The suspect was arrested following a police operation after investigators and barangay officials connected the footwear left at the residence to a man captured on CCTV during the alleged break-in.
The stolen firearm, reportedly valued at about ₱80,000, was also recovered, according to reports.
The incident happened in Barangay 864, Pandacan, while the retired judge was away from the house.
CCTV Captures Suspect Entering the Property
According to GMA News, CCTV footage showed a man entering the gate of the residence at around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
More than 30 minutes later, the same man was seen leaving the property in a hurry.
He had his face covered and, notably, was no longer wearing slippers.
The suspect was then seen running toward Florida Street, according to the report.
What initially appeared to be an attempt to conceal his identity would later give investigators an unexpected lead.
The Slippers Became the Breakthrough Clue
Investigators reportedly discovered that the intruder had left his slippers inside the property.
Barangay officials compared the footwear with slippers seen in CCTV footage and said they appeared to match those worn by a man identified by the alias “Siopao.”
The clue became particularly significant because the suspect was reportedly familiar with the area.
Barangay officials said he was not a resident, but had previously stayed in an abandoned house beside the retired judge’s property.
That location may have provided the suspect with access to the area around the residence, according to the reports.
The Retired Judge Was Not Home
Authorities said the retired judge was away when the alleged burglary occurred.
Another report said the judge’s granddaughter and a household helper were inside the property at the time.
The intruder allegedly entered through an adjacent abandoned property before reaching the residence and gaining access to an upper portion of the house.

The Missing Gun Was No Ordinary Firearm
The main item allegedly taken was a customized revolver valued at approximately ₱80,000.
