A 21-year-old construction worker was arrested in Mandaue City after he was allegedly caught stealing electrical wires, with police also recovering a sachet of suspected shabu during the operation on Monday morning, September 21, 2026.
Police identified the suspect as Alando Esguerra Daclan, who reportedly resides in Pier 4, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.
Daclan was arrested at around 7:30 a.m. at the center island of Ouano Avenue in Barangay Subangdaku by personnel from the City Mobile Force Company and the Safety Maintenance Area Response Team.
Authorities reportedly recovered around 100 meters of THHN 2.0 electrical wire valued at approximately P10,000. The wires were identified as belonging to Zlrej Trading Construction Corporation.
During a subsequent search, police also allegedly found one sachet containing suspected shabu in Daclan’s possession.
Daclan reportedly admitted to taking part in the theft and acknowledged using illegal drugs. However, he claimed that he was not the person who initiated the theft and said another companion had persuaded him to join.
According to the suspect’s account, he saw his companion gathering two sacks of cut wires from the area the previous night.
Police are continuing efforts to locate the alleged companion who reportedly fled the scene.
Daclan is expected to face a theft complaint. The recovery of the suspected illegal drug may also be subject to a separate investigation and appropriate charges depending on the results of the evidence examination and the authorities’ investigation.
