MANILA, Philippines — More than 14 years after one of Philippine showbiz’s most explosive airport controversies, Claudine Barretto has unexpectedly brought the Tulfo name back into the conversation—this time with affection rather than confrontation.
The actress exchanged warm messages with Ramon “Bon” Tulfo III, son of veteran broadcaster Ramon “Mon” Tulfo, publicly describing their friendship as deep and referring to Bon as her “bro” and “kapatid.”
But there is one important question the social-media exchange does not answer: Has Claudine also reconciled with Mon Tulfo himself?
For now, there is no confirmed evidence that she has.
Claudine Reveals Her Close Friendship With Mon Tulfo’s Son
According to PEP.ph, Barretto reposted a social-media report on the evening of August 27, 2026, concerning her recent meeting with Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, the youngest daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Barretto then tagged Ramon “Bon” Tulfo III and told followers that people apparently did not realize how close the two were, describing theirs as a “malalim friendship.”
Bon responded warmly, telling Barretto to simply laugh off the chatter and addressing her as his sister.
Claudine replied with an even more affectionate message: “Mahal kita bro.”
That short exchange was enough to revive memories of Claudine’s bitter history with Bon’s father.
But Claudine Never Said She and Mon Tulfo Had Reconciled
Some social-media users quickly interpreted Claudine and Bon’s friendship as evidence that the actress had also buried the hatchet with Mon.
That conclusion goes further than the available evidence.
PEP itself noted that Claudine was directly communicating with Bon, not his father. Neither Claudine nor Mon was quoted confirming that they had personally reconciled or resolved whatever remained of their old dispute.
The distinction matters because the Claudine-Mon controversy was hardly an ordinary celebrity disagreement.

On May 6, 2012, Claudine, then-husband Raymart Santiago, and Mon Tulfo became involved in a physical confrontation at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Contemporary reports said the dispute developed after Tulfo used his cellphone to photograph or record Barretto while she was confronting airline personnel following a baggage problem.
Raymart approached Tulfo, and the encounter escalated into a physical fight.

Complaints and Countercomplaints Followed
Claudine and Raymart filed complaints against Mon, including allegations involving physical injuries and child abuse, while Tulfo also pursued complaints arising from the encounter.
The controversy widened when Mon’s brothers Ben, Raffy and Erwin Tulfo publicly reacted to the incident on their television program.
GMA News reported that Claudine and Raymart later filed grave-threat and slander complaints against the three brothers.
The legal picture became more complicated over time. In 2013, PEP reported that the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office dismissed several complaints Mon had lodged against Claudine and Raymart—including attempted homicide, grave coercion and oral defamation—for lack of probable cause, although other complaints involving Raymart and another individual remained at that stage.
Separately, a grave-threat case filed by Claudine and Raymart against Ben, Raffy and Erwin was later dismissed after the complainants failed to appear at scheduled proceedings, according to PEP.
Those developments show why describing the entire episode simply as a celebrity “feud” understates how far the dispute went.
Why Kitty Duterte Became Part of the New Conversation
The latest Tulfo connection surfaced after another Claudine post generated attention.
Barretto recently spent time with Kitty Duterte in Davao City, sharing affectionate photos and calling her a “pretty little baby sister.”
Daily Tribune reported that the gathering generated both supportive and politically charged reactions online, although Claudine’s own post focused on her affection for Kitty rather than making a political statement.
LionhearTV separately reported that the two met for dinner in Davao on August 22. The outlet also noted online speculation about Claudine potentially portraying Vice President Sara Duterte in a project, while emphasizing that no new official confirmation had established such involvement based on the dinner itself.
It was amid the reactions surrounding that Duterte meeting that Claudine highlighted her friendship with Bon Tulfo.
A Surprising Connection After 14 Years
That is what makes the exchange noteworthy.
Anyone remembering the images and headlines from the 2012 airport fight might reasonably find it surprising that Claudine now publicly describes the son of Mon Tulfo as someone with whom she shares a deep friendship.
Yet family relationships do not automatically follow old public rivalries.
Claudine’s friendship with Bon demonstrates that whatever happened between their families more than a decade ago has apparently not prevented the two from developing their own relationship.
What it does not demonstrate—at least not yet—is that Claudine and Mon have personally reconciled.
Until either of them says so publicly, the most accurate description is simpler:
