BFP TAKES EARLY LEAD IN HISTORIC BARMM POLLS
The Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) has taken the lead in the regional parliamentary party race in the first regular elections of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), according to partial and unofficial results released Tuesday.
As of 10:30 a.m. on September 15, Commission on Elections (Comelec) data showed 98.4% of election results received, with 5,129 results transmitted and 83 still pending.
The BFP had 659,405 votes, while the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) had 607,966, according to the partial count reported by The Philippine Star.
The numbers remain unofficial and can still change as the remaining election results are processed and canvassed.
BFP AND UBJP DOMINATE THE EARLY COUNT
The BARMM Grand Coalition (BGC) was third with 386,027 votes, while the Raayat Democratic Party had 67,846 in the same partial count.
Several other parties were below 40,000 votes at that stage.
Earlier results reported by GMA News, based on 96.83% of election returns processed, likewise showed BFP and UBJP in the top two positions, with BFP holding about 34.9% and UBJP about 32.5% at that point in the count.
The changing figures underscore why the results should be described as partial and unofficial until the Comelec completes the necessary processes.
WHAT THE RESULTS MEAN FOR THE BANGSAMORO PARLIAMENT
The regional parliamentary political party race is different from the individual district contests.
Under the BARMM electoral system, 40 parliamentary seats are allocated through regional party representation. Political parties must obtain at least 2.5% of valid votes to qualify, with seats distributed proportionally according to their vote shares.
Each participating party submitted a list of nominees, ranked according to priority, who can fill the seats won by their party.
This makes the final party vote particularly important because the eventual totals will help determine the composition of the incoming Bangsamoro Parliament.
A HISTORIC POLITICAL TRANSITION
The September 14 election is the first regular parliamentary election for BARMM, marking a major transition from the region’s interim governing structure toward an elected Parliament.
The results will determine not only individual representatives but also the political balance inside the new regional legislature.
With BFP and UBJP leading the early party count, attention is now focused on whether the final tally will preserve that ranking and how many parliamentary seats each qualifying party will ultimately receive.
WHY THE FINAL COUNT MATTERS
A lead of tens of thousands of votes can appear decisive, but the allocation of parliamentary seats ultimately depends on the final valid vote totals and proportional distribution.
The remaining returns could affect the standings of parties near the 2.5% qualification threshold as well as the eventual number of seats won by each qualifying group.
For voters and political observers, the next major milestone is therefore not simply identifying the party with the most votes—it is determining what the completed count means for the balance of power in the first elected Bangsamoro Parliament.
THE BANGSAMORO POLITICAL MAP IS TAKING SHAPE
The early results give BFP an important lead, but they do not yet constitute a final election result.
As canvassing and verification continue, the coming hours and days could determine the exact parliamentary strength of BFP, UBJP, BGC and the other parties that clear the required threshold.
For BARMM, the historic election has entered its next phase: turning millions of votes into the political structure that will govern the autonomous region.
