Starlux Airlines Launches Bali Flights From Taiwan — And It’s Targeting More Than Just Vacationers

Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines has launched direct flights to Bali, expanding its Southeast Asian network while positioning Taiwan as a potential transit hub for travelers heading to Indonesia.

The airline inaugurated its new Taoyuan–Bali service on Thursday, marking Bali as Starlux’s second destination in Indonesia after Jakarta, which it has served since September 2024.

The launch was marked at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport with a yoga performance, reflecting Bali’s strong association with wellness and leisure travel.

Starlux Begins Five Flights a Week

The new service initially operates five flights per week between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport near Denpasar.

According to Taiwan News, Starlux CEO Glenn Chai said the new route would help make the airline’s Asian network more complete. The company also hopes to attract passengers from Europe and North America who could transit through Taiwan on their way to Bali.

The Bali route is Starlux’s 34th international destination, further expanding the airline’s international footprint.

Taiwan Wants a Bigger Role as an Asian Travel Hub

The new route is not only about connecting Taiwan with one of the world’s best-known tourist destinations.

Starlux says it intends to make greater use of Taiwan’s geographic position as an Asian hub, developing a broader network of routes that can connect travelers between different regions.

That strategy could give Taiwan an additional role in long-haul travel, particularly for passengers traveling between North America, Europe and popular destinations across Asia.

Bali’s global popularity makes the new connection especially significant for the airline’s expansion strategy.

A New Gateway to Bali

Passengers on the inaugural flight received promotional gifts including a thermos bottle and a five-day eSIM card, according to Taiwan News.

For travelers, the new service adds another direct option between Taiwan and Bali, while for Starlux, it represents another step in building its international network.

The airline’s expansion also comes as competition among Asian carriers continues to grow, with airlines seeking to capture both leisure travelers and passengers using regional hubs for connecting flights.

Starlux’s Bali launch therefore represents more than another destination on its route map.

It is part of a broader push to make Taiwan a more important gateway between international travelers and Southeast Asia — and Bali could be one of the routes that helps determine how far that strategy can go.
