NHA TRANG, Vietnam — The highly anticipated Miss World 2026 coronation night has officially begun in Vietnam, with 111 delegates from around the world competing for the coveted blue crown in the pageant’s 75th Anniversary Edition.
The grand finale is taking place at April 2 Square in Nha Trang, where thousands of spectators are watching the outdoor spectacle unfold. The event marks the culmination of weeks of competitions, advocacy activities, cultural showcases and challenges involving contestants from four regions.
For Filipino pageant fans, one name remains firmly in the spotlight: Asia Rose Simpson, the Philippines’ representative at Miss World 2026.
And she has already cleared one of the night’s biggest hurdles.
Asia Rose Simpson makes the Top 40
Simpson has advanced to the Miss World 2026 Top 40, keeping the Philippines’ hopes alive for a second Miss World crown.
The Filipina-American beauty queen had already secured her place in the quarterfinal round after winning the Asia & Oceania Head-to-Head Challenge, where she delivered an answer centered on preserving cultural identity while embracing modernization.
Her response highlighted distinctly Filipino values such as kapwa and bayanihan, emphasizing the importance of passing cultural traditions from one generation to the next. Her regional victory automatically placed her in the Top 40.
The latest Top 40 announcement includes representatives from the Americas and Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and Asia and Oceania.
Among the Asia-Oceania qualifiers are Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, China, Cook Islands, India, Türkiye and Lebanon, with Simpson representing the Philippines.
Rain briefly interrupts the coronation
The much-awaited finale did not proceed completely without disruption.
According to reports from the Philippines, heavy rain forced a temporary pause in the outdoor coronation program, with contestants waiting as organizers suspended the proceedings.
The show eventually resumed, and the Top 40 candidates were presented in Vietnam’s traditional ao dai, adding a distinctly Vietnamese cultural element to the international competition.
The weather interruption added another dramatic twist to an already highly anticipated finale.
Asia’s Miss World journey has been gaining momentum
Simpson entered the Miss World competition with significant attention after becoming the youngest Miss World Philippines titleholder at 18.
Her campaign has also included several notable performances.
She reached the Top 3 of the Miss World Talent Challenge after presenting her original contemporary dance piece, Succor. The performance explored mental-health concerns and used dance as a form of emotional expression.
She was also among the finalists in the Beauty With a Purpose competition, another major component of the Miss World format.
Her advocacy centers on SEED, a sports-and-dance initiative designed to promote young people’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. Reports have highlighted her efforts to use sports and dance as tools for youth development and connection.
Philippines chasing another Miss World crown
The stakes are particularly high for the Philippines.
The country has won the Miss World title only once, when Megan Young captured the crown in 2013.
Simpson is now attempting to become the second Filipina to win the prestigious title.
Her Top 40 placement gives her another opportunity to continue that historic bid, but the competition becomes significantly tougher from this point forward.
Under the 2026 format, the field progresses from the Top 40 to Top 20, then Top 12 and Top 6, before the final three placements are determined. Several contestants have earned automatic advancement through challenge victories and other qualifying mechanisms.
A historic 75th Anniversary edition
The 2026 competition is especially significant because Miss World is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
The official Miss World organization described the Vietnam edition as a celebration combining pageantry, culture, diversity and purpose. Contestants have participated in activities across Vietnam leading up to the final, including cultural presentations and the Dances of the World showcase.
Earlier this week, all 111 contestants took part in Dances of the World – Hello Vietnam, Hello World at April 2 Square, showcasing traditional dances and costumes representing their countries and regions.
The Miss World organization has also emphasized its Beauty With a Purpose advocacy component, which remains one of the competition’s defining features.
The question now: How far can Asia go?
With the Philippines safely through the first major cut, attention now shifts to the next stage.
Asia Rose Simpson has already demonstrated that she can perform under pressure, secure a major challenge victory and connect her advocacy to issues affecting young people.
But the road to the crown is getting narrower.
The Top 40 must now be reduced further, meaning every appearance, answer and performance could determine whether Simpson moves closer to the Top 20, Top 12, Top 6—and ultimately the Miss World crown.
