NAGOYA, Japan — South Korea’s Lee Jong-jun and Jang Kuk-hee battled through a tense final to win silver in the mixed-team skeet shooting event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Thursday.
The Korean pair finished with 51 points, just one behind China’s 52, while India claimed bronze with 44 points. The result gave South Korea its first medal in the Asian Games mixed-team skeet event and its first shotgun medal of the ongoing competition.
Korea Stayed in the Fight Until the Final Series
The medal battle remained extremely close throughout the final.
South Korea entered the medal round in second place after scoring 143 points in qualification, behind Qatar’s 145 and ahead of China’s 140. The Korean team quickly established itself as one of the main challengers for gold.
After three series, Qatar was eliminated with 18 points. Korea and China continued trading the lead, eventually reaching 30 points apiece.
The decisive moment came later in the competition. China moved ahead 45-44 after the penultimate series, while Korea and India were tied at 44. Because Korea had entered the final with the higher qualification ranking, the tie-break rule sent Korea through to the gold-medal contest, leaving India with bronze.
China Breaks the World Record
The final eight shots determined the gold medal.
Lee hit all four of his targets, while Jang hit three, giving South Korea seven successful shots and a final total of 51.
China, however, produced the decisive finish. Jiang Yiting hit all four of her targets after Lyu Jianlin missed his second, pushing China to 52 points.
That score broke the previous world record of 47, set by Qatar in Doha earlier in 2026, according to SBS.
A Landmark Medal for Korea
The silver carries particular significance for the Korean pair.
SBS reported that it was South Korea’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the mixed-team skeet event. It was also Jang Kuk-hee’s first Asian Games medal, while Lee Jong-jun added another Asian Games medal to his career after previously winning bronze in the men’s team event at the 2014 Incheon Games.
The medal also adds to South Korea’s shooting haul in Aichi-Nagoya. Before the skeet final, Korea had already collected five shooting medals in Toyota, including two in pistol events and three in rifle events.
India Takes Bronze After Dramatic Tie
India’s Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal finished with 44 points to take bronze.
The Indian pair had entered the medal round in fourth place with 138 points from qualification. Their bronze added another medal to India’s growing skeet haul at the Games.
The final ultimately belonged to China, but Korea’s performance ensured a historic result of its own: a first Asian Games medal in mixed-team skeet and a silver earned after one of the closest finishes of the shooting competition so far.
