Three people, including a firefighter, were taken to hospital after a fire broke out inside a seventh-floor HDB flat in Ang Mo Kio on Sept. 22.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at Block 254 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 at about 10.45am. The blaze involved items in the living room of the flat, with thick black smoke seen coming from the unit.
Firefighters entered the smoke-filled home and found two people in the bedrooms. They were assessed for smoke inhalation and subsequently taken to Singapore General Hospital.
One firefighter was also assessed for heat exhaustion after the firefighting operation and was taken to Woodlands Hospital as a precaution.
The fire was extinguished using a water jet.
Police and SCDF evacuated about 20 residents from the block as a precaution while firefighting and rescue operations were carried out.
Footage from the scene showed flames and heavy smoke emerging from the affected flat, with windows appearing shattered during the incident.
Kebun Baru MP Henry Kwek said HDB would arrange temporary accommodation for the affected resident. He also thanked SCDF, the police, HDB and Ang Mo Kio Town Council teams for assisting residents at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident comes amid continuing concerns over residential fires in Singapore. SCDF recorded 2,050 fires in 2025, including 1,051 residential fires. Unattended cooking and electrical fires were the two leading causes of home fires that year.
Authorities continue to remind residents to take precautions when cooking, using electrical appliances and dealing with other potential sources of heat at home.
