FERROL, Romblon — Thousands of households in Ferrol, Romblon are receiving another round of government-funded rice assistance as the municipal government began distributing the second tranche of its ₱7-million Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) rice program.
The latest distribution, conducted on August 10, 2026, provided 10 kilograms of rice per beneficiary household as part of a three-tranche assistance program targeting 2,550 households across the municipality.
But the assistance does not end with the second release.
Under the program, each qualified household is expected to receive 30 kilograms of rice in total, distributed in three separate tranches of 10 kilograms each. The first tranche was distributed in July, while the latest distribution marked the second release.
₱7 Million Rice Program Targets 2,550 Households
The Ferrol rice assistance program is funded through the Local Government Support Fund, a national government funding mechanism that allows local government units to finance programs addressing the needs of their constituents.
For Ferrol, the allocation totals ₱7 million, with the rice assistance intended to help households manage their basic food requirements and daily expenses.
Mayor Christian Gervacio said the assistance provides meaningful support to residents, particularly in meeting their food needs.
The second distribution was carried out with the participation of Vice Mayor Joenan Sarmiento, municipal councilors, and barangay officials, who helped facilitate the delivery of the assistance to beneficiaries.
Ferrol Aid Part of Wider LGSF Food-Security Effort
Ferrol’s rice distribution is part of a broader 2026 government effort to bring food assistance closer to communities through local governments.
In Jose Dalman, Zamboanga del Norte, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported that LGSF-FALGU rice assistance was distributed to families across barangays, with beneficiaries receiving 10 kilograms of rice each. DILG said the implementation was monitored to validate distribution procedures and promote transparent delivery of the assistance.
Similar LGSF-funded rice assistance has also been reported in Looc, Romblon, where 5,433 households benefited from a ₱5-million program. The Looc initiative included 10 kilograms of rice for nearly 4,000 households listed in its 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System, while more than 1,000 senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and solo parents without pensions received 40 kilograms each.
These parallel distributions show how LGSF funding is being used by different LGUs to address food-security concerns at the community level.
More Than Just a Sack of Rice
For families struggling to stretch household budgets, the assistance can mean less money spent on one of the most basic necessities: food.
The Ferrol program is particularly significant because the aid is structured across three distributions rather than being released as a single allocation. If the program proceeds according to its planned schedule, each qualified household will ultimately receive 30 kilograms of rice from the three tranches combined.
For now, the second tranche has reached beneficiaries, leaving one final 10-kilogram distribution under the three-tranche program.
The development places Ferrol among the Romblon municipalities using national government support to provide direct food assistance to residents while strengthening household food security.
