Several young people allegedly involved in a street disturbance in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City, have been brought before barangay officials together with their parents after a video of the incident circulated on social media.
The incident happened on the evening of September 19, when two groups of young people reportedly got into a confrontation that escalated into a fight involving thrown bottles. The video later spread online, prompting police to investigate and identify those involved.
Waterfront Police Station 3, under Police Captain Raymart Rabanes, launched an intervention after the video came to the attention of authorities. Police conducted barangay visits and coordinated with Barangay Captain Harold Seño and other officials to establish what happened and determine the identities of the individuals seen in the footage.
Through verification and coordination with barangay officials, police were able to identify at least one of the young people shown in the video.
The individuals involved were subsequently summoned to the barangay together with their parents. During the inquiry, one of the youths reportedly said their group had come from a night market and encountered another group while they were heading home.
The encounter eventually escalated into the exchange of bottles, according to the account provided to authorities.
Because this was reportedly the first similar incident involving those identified, police issued warnings and advised them not to repeat the behavior.
Parents were also reminded that they have an important role in monitoring and guiding their children to prevent them from becoming involved in disturbances and other incidents that could threaten peace and order in the community.
Police are also strengthening their presence in the area following the incident.
Waterfront Police Station 3 said it will increase police visibility and continue checkpoint operations, including Oplan Bulabog and Oplan Bakal/Sita. Additional personnel will also be deployed near elevated police outposts as part of preventive measures.
Authorities are coordinating with barangay officials and community members to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
The case highlights how a confrontation among young people can quickly escalate in a public area and spread beyond the community once recorded and shared online.
For police and barangay officials, the immediate focus is now on prevention, parental guidance and increased police visibility to keep similar disturbances from recurring.
