A vegetation fire broke out near the junction of Bukit Panjang Ring Road and Fajar Road on Thursday afternoon, prompting a response from Singapore’s emergency services.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at around 4.30pm on September 3. The blaze involved a patch of vegetation measuring approximately 30m by 20m. Firefighters extinguished the flames using a water jet.
Thick smoke seen rising from the area
A video posted on Facebook showed thick white smoke rising from the open vegetation area, while emergency vehicles were seen at the scene.
Despite the visible smoke, no injuries were reported, according to SCDF. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident comes amid continued attention on vegetation-fire risks in Singapore. Authorities have previously highlighted the increased risk of such fires during hot and dry conditions, with measures including vegetation management, fire breaks and patrols in fire-prone areas.
Singapore’s National Parks Board also advises the public not to use open flames in parks and other green spaces except at designated areas, and to dispose of flammable items responsibly.
No casualties, but investigation continues
There were no reports of injuries from the Bukit Panjang incident, and the fire has been extinguished.
SCDF has not disclosed what caused the blaze. The investigation remains ongoing.
