Stranger Stops to Help Elderly Man Who Fell at Serangoon Central, Shields His Head From Hot Pavement

SINGAPORE — A simple act of kindness by a passer-by at Serangoon Central is drawing attention online after he stopped to help an elderly man who appeared to have fallen on the pavement.

The incident happened at around 10.30am on Saturday, Aug. 29, near Block 254A Serangoon Central Drive, according to information provided to AsiaOne by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Footage posted on TikTok by user spc306 shows the elderly man lying on the ground while a passer-by crouches beside him.

Rather than simply waiting for help, the man stayed beside the elderly stranger and supported his head. He also appeared to use his hand to cushion the man’s head from the pavement while assistance was being sought.

As the scene unfolded, another woman approached and knelt beside the elderly man. More members of the public subsequently stopped to see what was happening.

The first passer-by, however, remained with the elderly man even after other people had gathered around.

The video was captioned “A Stranger’s Act of Kindness”, with the uploader praising the passer-by for helping someone he did not know.

“He simply saw someone who needed help — and he acted,” the TikTok user wrote.

SCDF confirms emergency response

SCDF confirmed to AsiaOne that it received a call for assistance at Block 254A Serangoon Central Drive at about 10.30am on Aug. 29.

SCDF subsequently conveyed one person to Sengkang General Hospital. The agency did not provide further medical details about the person’s condition in the report.

The incident has since prompted attention online, not because of a dramatic confrontation, but because of the quiet response of a stranger who chose to stop and help.

In a busy public space, the moment serves as a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful acts of kindness are the simplest ones: noticing someone in distress, staying with them and making sure they are not left alone while help is on the way.

For now, the identity of the passer-by and the elderly man has not been publicly identified in the available reporting.
