MANILA, Philippines — Motorists traveling through Quezon City this weekend are being urged to plan ahead as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) begins a series of road repairs and reblocking works on several major thoroughfares starting Friday night, August 28.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned that the construction activities could cause traffic congestion in affected areas and advised drivers to consider alternative routes.
According to the MMDA, most of the rehabilitation works will begin at 11 p.m. Friday and continue until 5 a.m. on Monday, August 31.
Roads affected by the weekend repairs
The DPWH is scheduled to conduct repair and rehabilitation works in the following areas:
- E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue — from the end approach of the Ortigas Flyover northbound to the corner of Green Meadows Avenue
- Quezon Avenue — from the corner of BIR Road to the area in front of the Lung Center of the Philippines
- C-5 Road — from in front of UP Town Center to the corner of C.P. Garcia Avenue
- Payatas Road — from the Petron gas station to Salcedo Street, affecting the outer lane
- Payatas Road — from San Miguel Street to Wilcon, also affecting the outer lane
Meanwhile, motorists should take note that separate reblocking and repair works along Elliptical Road, from Commonwealth Avenue to Visayas Avenue, are expected to continue until Tuesday, September 1.
Why the repairs matter now
The latest round of roadworks comes as Metro Manila continues to deal with road damage following recent heavy rains. In a separate report this month, the DPWH said it has been carrying out repairs on weather-damaged roads across the capital region, including several major routes and structures in Quezon City.
Recent repair activities have covered sections of E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue, the Luzon Avenue Flyover, Mindanao Avenue, Quezon Avenue Bridge and the EDSA-Santolan Flyover, as authorities take advantage of better weather to address potholes and other road damage.
That means this weekend’s motorists may encounter not only the scheduled work zones but also the broader effects of ongoing infrastructure maintenance across the city.
Motorists advised: Leave early and check your route
With C-5, Quezon Avenue and E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue serving as key routes for thousands of commuters and private vehicles, even partial lane closures could lead to slower traffic, particularly during peak travel periods.
The MMDA is advising motorists to use alternative routes whenever possible and allow extra travel time while the works are underway.
For drivers heading out this weekend, the message is simple: check your route before leaving—because a familiar drive through Quezon City could take much longer than expected.
